Gonna be different for different people, but many former users considered EI modler to be a very powerful and easy to use modeler. It has issues to be sure, but it showed tremendous potential. It’s surface/solid mix was nearless seamless. It was also a partner product to EIAS, which doesn’t have a dedicated modeler. I am waiting in line, because I really di denjow using modeler.
I use EIM for all my organic modeling… I have Modo, but I find working in Modeler much faster… I personally look forward to a modern implementation and UB compatibility.
For me it is all practical… faster & quality = more money…

Wow, Wish I could hear that from ZB3 on the Mac. Great communication and turnaround. Wonder if Tesla will be anything like ZB?
Can’t imagine not brush painting a sculpt nowadays. It would be nice if Tesla opened the door for “Micropoly” rendering in EIAS.
Anyway, after catching a virus in BootCamp a few months ago, I reinstall Windows. Just can’t think a faster way to model organics like clothes without ZB3 subtools. Gotta do what ya gotta do I guess
“Wonder if Tesla will be anything like ZB?”
That`s exactly the question I think about these days.
Playing with the ZBrush-Demo the last few weeks I must state that I want/need a tool like that.
So in the moment I think about buying ZBrush.
Also Modo could be a nice alternative, even if the brush tools are not as special as in ZBrush.
It would be very hard if some weeks later Tesla came up having similar tools implemented.
Could you give a little hint concerning this Phil ?
This could save some of my money for you
Cheers
Tom
Yes, even Maya has “brush” tool called Artisan for years.
Most artist have been using a stylus since early Photoshop, a single point/edge polygonal modeler would be unintuitive if not antiquated. I believe Modo has a brush tool as well. Pulling points with a mouse, even on a Sub-D cage is something I avoid even in Maya when possible. Even without surface brushing, how would Tesla be at retopolizing say scan or high density brush sculpt?
Maybe Tesla is a bit more of a NURBS industrial design modeler? It would be sad if it’s only EIM UB port.
Hate to be the critic but there’s no time for kid gloves.
Well , picking a name like “Tesla” as the codename one would think this modeler is way ahead of its time as Nikola Tesla was IMO . Some people have said that Nikola Tesla invented the 20th century and was maybe a little eccentric as well.
I am not a user of Electric Image but I am always interested in new 3d software and with that codename I had to respond. So,will Tesla be a stand alone modeler or a plugin for EI only? Looking forward to more info on this.
Cheers
I’ve used, tested, tried, abused, and flogged nearly every modeler there is, and Modeler was one of my favorites.
Two caveats to the above:
Hi!
Tesla will be a stand alone modeler. EITG plans to offer it to non-EIAS and EIAS users alike.
Well, the idea was for EIM’s feature set to be sort of Tesla’s baseline in this first stage. I hope we get a few happy surprises in this first release, though.
Well I just got off the phone with Brad…I’m hoping to get a sneak peak of Tesla while in end stage Alpha to influence the program’s direction. Beta is right around the corner.
Make sure to spill some beans when you give it a whirl.
EIM was no small task to bring out initially so I’m guessing it will be very close to EIM 5.x for the first release. Maybe brought up to date with the new ACIS Version…if it still uses that. If not, then I hope they went with Mcneel’s Open Nurbs.
In any case, I’m looking forward to seeing what Kishore has come up with.
Oh I’ll see how many beans I can spill.
I do know that the ASICs kernal is fully up to date.
I doubt this, but I would love some form of a connection between Tesla and EIAS. Anything besides the usual save out Fact from Tesla, import Fact into EIAS. I know the future of Tesla and EIAS will most likely be more integrated but it would be nice in V1 to see something. Selfishly, I want to be able to import illustrator files into Tesla in some form.
Something for the ‘mograph/designers’ to be familiar with.
Side Note - just rendered 300 frames of heavily textured and raytraced D1 output in 12 minutes on my 8 core! I LOVE cameras speeeeed : )
We want our Tesla’s GUI porn!
EIM was able to import Illustrator’s (and Freehand’s, poor thing  ) .ai files, already.
And did a damn-fine job of it too. One of the better apps for bringing in Illustrator files.
Though dollar for dollar, when it comes to making beveled type nothing can touch Invigorator Pro Modeler.
beveled ANYTHING. I absolutely agree on that. EI\Tesla could have a “bevel designer”
similar, at least a little, to invigerator. 98% of type done in C4d and Maya looks so
‘bad 3d-ish’ those apps are capable, but for beveling they seem cumbersome.
