What else is Luxology up to...

#1

Hi there,
I have read a few snippets about the 3d OS (?) that Luxology has been working on. I probably misunderstood that but am interested to know what else Luxology might have up its sleeve in the future. Not wanting to get in the way of any NDA’s but I think its worth asking…
Be great,
-Ross

The “3D OS” is from what I’ve understood called Nexus which is an application baking system that allows easy and fast way for Luxology to just insert new code into the system and bake an application with desired features from the system.

Or something, I’m not 100% sure  Luxology does have a renderer coming up for sure, but there is no words about animating package…

#3

I hope they will concentrate on Modo before trying to put something else on the market…Right now I am really disapointed by this software ( I prefer lightwave Modeler )…
Its time to really learn XSI.

#4

Hi - are you sure that the renderer and the animation part are seperate modules? Where did you hear this?

#5

Guys at Luxology haven’t said anything about animating so it’d be only a logical conclusion although they may be doing the same as with LW: Modeler and “everything else” in form of Layout.

#6

Sounds like you already made your mind up so what does it matter?

#7

that wont be cool…personally i prefer they intergrate animation/modeling/rendering/dynamics/etc into one solid package, yet allow anyone to buy all those as seperate modules(in case they only need a modeler, or animation, etc).

#8

I think that IS what they’re doing. If you have Modo, and then buy their rendering program, you’ll suddenly have new “forms” in Modo… you’ll have access to all the rendering functions under the same program.

Anyways, I really wish they’d talk about this stuff more. I’m more interested in the whole package then I am with just Modo.

ok, now i don’t know why this area still confuse a lot of pplz. it was discussed and informed from luxology guys that luxology product is a simple and clean 3d system (OS) under name of NEXUS, and everything behaving in this 3d system is called form, and all ur tools is a set of commands.
for the time being luxology team released the current forms and commands wich by them selves form a modeling application with UV editing.
now the story begin, imagin if when u click on the widget to change a current form from 3d viewport to UV editing, that u don’t find a 3d editing form, so will u say that MODO don’t contain UV???
the answer is no, UV editing is just a form inside nexus system, and this is the case of spline or subdivision, or blending or animation or particles…
so later in the coming releases, luxology have the right and the policy to do:
-release a new application (e.g. animo) wich is the base nexus system, but including the animation forms and commands only, this way, if u model in silo, wings 3d acad or whatever application, u can use animo for animation, as most do with messiah…as well as rendering and following technologies.
-give a upgrade to the current modo owners, by updating their forms and commands.

and to give u all a straight and forward answer, cause i know there will still be some of u who will say, so is there any animation or bone sytem in modo, will all these modules b integrated or will they do as lightwaves.

yes, there will b animation and rendering coming modules, but not necesserly at the same time, and they r integrated better than any of the current packages, imagine that u’ll have a form called “timeline”
and to know what NEXUS will or can handle in the near future, just go to the command line and type : item.create
a popup is on, now scroll down the item type and c ur self what particles or bones or light types or skeleton or rig…does all of these sound for u as animation or rendering tools or not
oh and by the way, did u c the voxel, shader, gradient…
have a sweet dreams.

Wow Vuedesprit these are great news for sure! and the list of items that Nexus will handle is really cool BTW. i am sure that an animation and rendering module will be there. actually i’d like to see 3 modules rather than 2 apps like ithappens in Lw. Modo (modeler) an animation module- with all damn tools for animation and CA, as well as dynamics and particles and a rendering module.

All 3 modules could be sold both separately and together easily due to the Nexus environment.
in this way ,mixed pipeline user will found something Luxology to work with if they need to do so, being that Modo, animation module, or rendering engine. Great!!

I also suppose that the “together” option (buying the remaining modules, maybe with some price discount if u own Modo or another module) will be very powerful and with a good workflow, cause IMO that’s main Luxology goal.

So far, Modo is a cool app for sure, with great possibilities to improve and enhance the current workflow. it suffers abit from being 1.0, but i think the next update will be good.

We also know Luxology is carefully listening their customers to bring all good ideas that could make of Modo a better app. I really hope this will happen, and i’m quite sure of that.

This is the right philosophy, because only listening the user base can make the app grow better.

So, in other words I just can’t wait and see next Lux products!!

Well back at Apple’s WDC or the one in europe(not sure which, i watched both) not sure if it was Brad Peebler or someone else, was brought on during the key note to show the wip Renderer. (he rendered some ludicrus amount of instances of the hippo model with radiosity)
I saw a movie from siggraph that show wome wip animation, they had a simple skeleton(looked like the 3dsmax/chr studio biped) going through an animation sequence and in real time they modified the geometry by turning on sub-Ds, making it fatter and adding new geometry by extruding horns from teh head, with each change the animation reflected it.

so they are definitely working on more stuff.

no Idea when it’s due though

if it’s true this is really cool. personally, i’d like to see from lux some animation tools like there are in kaydara’s Motion Builder wich is a really awesome realtime animation app. i like the idea of the character picker, and storing poses, plus autorigging and more. even XSI features are really awesome. IMO lux could do a great job implementing those things to go really beyond what Lw layout can do currently, insisting on ease of use too, just like they’re doing with Modo.

ok, i dreamed enough.

#13

Would love to know what’s in the pipeline adn when it’s going to be released…hey Lux guys…chuck us a bone!

#14

think it’s a bit early. they will say when time has come.

From the little we know, some good things about lux projects and Nexus should be out in 2005 first quarter

#15

Hmmm, First Quater 2005? Yeah I seem to remember that date yet it’s been a long time since Lux guys have mentioned this date…

#16

No official dates have been announced for any unannounced products.

#17

What about unofficial?

#18

Yeah, we don’t need any dates. Just let us know EVERYTHING you’re working on. You don’t have to make any promises.

#19

so just say something unofficial and let me have a good dream at the next coming MODO upgrade, comon say something guy… :bounce:
