What am I doing wrong?

#1

I have this ant that I’m trying to rig. And it has these jaws that are connected to the head. (I know I coud re-model it so they are segmented but. . . thats just not as cool.) So I have put a bone right there near the jaw and added a MettaEffector tool and two Effectors that isolate the geometry I’d like to move with the bone. Then I point the bone to that MetaEffector and moved it. . .

Its not working right! Its ignoring the 2nd Effector in the MettaEffector tool.

So. . . what am I doing wrong? Anyone have any idea?

Never mind. . . I figured it out.

The bone from the head was grabbing parts of the Jaw. (duh)

ant looks cool.

So, what did you do to fix the problem?
I know next to nothing about rigging in messiah, so these “simple” problems interest me greatly.

Puppetmaster is a great solution for that type of thing. Also for solid body sections and legs.

I started to turn everything off that wasn’t specific to the jaw. And sure enough when I put the “slip” on the main head bone to 1 instead of 0. . . it fixed itself. Then I just adjusted the lenght of the two holding bones on either side of the head to make sure they grabbed everything and. . . no more bad jaw! Yay.

Then I clicked on the Metta Effector, pressed / on the num-pad to mirror it over to the other side. Same with the jaw bone, re-named everything. . . pointed everything to the right place. . . pressed F9 and thats the end of my story.

The End.

Thanks for taking the time to give the explanation Wegg, that really helps clear it up for me.
