Best Model NSB,
my two cents about breaking the rules. I remember the Queen challenge… I was in a team (I modeled the props + zeppelin) and I remember that we (inside the team) explicitly agree of doing everything from SCRATCH. I’m sure that Fabio can model a base mesh very quickly but I cannot agree that base mesh is just a start
To have a GOOD topology need a LOT of work. Look at Gnomon tutorials for example. A clean, basic good mesh is the essence of every work. Everyone that made a retopo knows what really means to have a good model.
IN a workflow of modelling a character basic modelling can take DAYS. and obaining a good basic mesh can take a lot of time (for some artist took years to have the "starting perfect mesh)
Also look at some tuts in zbrushcentral… with a good basic mesh you can morph and obtain 100 other variations (for example that was used for doing a lot of character in Assassin Creed). So mainly there are two “school”
- people that says tat redoing everything from scratch help you in learning modeling
- Working people
alwatys rushing that of course do a lot of kitbashing…
I think this is not a quick and easy topic but should be deeply analyzed… so next architectural challenge for example why not using google sketchup premade models and just detail it ??? that probably would not be good and not accepted but I can always say… well I just used some premade cubes
So I suggest two things… open a thread in modeling section about basic modeling (especially of humans…) and of course give a honorable mention to Fabio which did a great job… but rules are rules.
I will be very glad to hear comments from “pro” and not amateur like me
I love this forum is always a source of inspiration and good discussion. Compliments to ALL the partcipants !!
