weird zooming problem

#1

Hey all!

New to this site and wings. I must say I like both a lot!

I have started to model a car in wings. I got my plans set up and started with the front air dam.

The weird thing is when viewing along the z axis in an orthographic view I can’t zoom in too far or my object dissapears. This is only in wire frame mode.

It’s kinda a problem cuz I need wireframe to see the plans.

I wonder if it’s a bug or I just screwed some setting up???

Any ideas??

well, hmm… if you are zooming right through the object, and the object is still a solid object, as in, it has not been intruded or extruded in, then I would have to say you are attempting to see through a solid object… which you wouldn’t be able to do… unless of course you had the texture/color setting on partial transparency and were previewing by hitting shift/tab…

I dunno, maybe PP will be around to answer this… he’s one of the many resident Wings3d experts here at CGT, who are pretty much able to answer any and all regarding this sweet little app…

good luck

you are right. I found ou that I was dollying the camera right through the object. Heading for the image plane itself.

I was expecting it to work like 3dsmax or something, where in a non camera view you can zoom in on the points very closely.

In wings it operates just like a scene camera, where you can actually pass objects in 3d space with the camera.

It’s still a sweet program anyway.

EDIT: I fixed the problem by lowering the field of view number in Edit > Camera Settings…

should’ve messed around more before posting.

try going into Edit>Camera Mode… and change some settings

don’t really know if this will get yas where ya want ta be, but… it will bring you one or two clicks closer than was…

lol, you beat me to correcting myself…

#6

haha, you have got it…

happy modeling

You might want to try:

View > Show Wireframe Backfaces

this way, you will be able to see the wireframe even from inside the object.

Best regards.

Another option is to scale everything up (say 400%) and then you can zoom in much closer in mirai camera mode.

<< and change some settings >>

Clipping planes are well worth experimenting with

Selecting the verts/edges/faces you want to zoom in on and pressing a (aim) or shift a (frame) can help with getting really close to the geometry. - Baz
