Web site samples..

#1

Hey guys i have finished some samples of what I have in mind for the site, and I would love to hear your opinions on it.

Here you go:
SAMPLE1

SAMPLE 2

I like the second one better.

  • The options on top just looks better than at the side.
  • The options in between the hole and the box spoils the effect a bit. The effect of the box looking at the hole is much more clear in the second sample.

But I would make the orange bar in the bottom of sample 2 run along the entire length and also make it less high, about half the size.

Roberto,
Nice design so far, I’m really digging the second option and I agree with Rens’ comment about the bar at the bottom.

Hi Roberto, great samples you’ve got there.

I don’t want to take over your thread, but I just wanted to put in my 2c with the design. I put this template together a little while ago but I never ended up using it. I thought it would look as a site for the film so I messed around with it a little and came up with this. Let me know what you think.

This is just the first page. We’d have content in the area to the right for the other pages.

Hi there Roberto,

in my opinion both of the layouts require a lot of bitmaps put together, therefore it’d require a lot of time to download etc… Well, unless you’re planning to use Flash + some nice preloader, then I’d go with the second one as well

Roberto,

I think you should look for a symbiosis between your design and sphere’s.
I like the cleaness of his design, although I think the title could use a little bit more focus and maybe align the first item (theFilm) with the top horizontal line. You could place the title above that right or left top. Is it going to be Flash or html?

Sphere’s layout(menus placement) is much better but the images (orange looking at the hole, the grey) from Roberts are better.

Like mentioned earlier, a mix of the two would be nice.

Roberto - No offense but, I really like sphere’s design better. Your two samples seem too complex and bold in color design. Each design has 2 or 3 different sections that compete for attention (image, text, borders or buttons). The sample that sphere has provided is nice, simple and clean. Which I think is a good reflection of what the film is all about. Simplicity.

The only thing I would change in sphere’s design is the background color behind the text on the left. A soft blue-gray tint would reflect the colors of the film better and contrast the orange better. Also, the image on the right could be in the 1.85:1 aspect ratio of the film rather than portrait.

Leave some space in the text column if we want to add to it in the future. You never know if we’ll pick up some press or awards for our efforts and we should have a section of the site that highlights these accomplishments.

Ok, I made a few changes to colour and layout. There can be as much space as you like Kirt. This site can be thrown into html tables so it should be easy to manage things like that.

Oh also, I just added that little slogan (or whatever you call it) to fill the space. I’m wondering if we will have something like that and if you had any thoughts about that Kirt?

I really like how this is coming together, the colors and the layout are really nice. I like the tag line (this is what I know it as) but I think that it should either be two lines broken before “realizing”, or one line with elipses seperating the sections ( about life… realizing them ). I would also suggest a slightly bigger/bolder font that will accentuate the title of the film and brand it a little stonger. The addition of the blue tint is a really great addition that makes it pop a lot better.

I like the new color and landscape orientation of the image. The text at bottom right is a little hard to read. I wouldn’t make it much lighter than the text in the left hand column.

I like the idea for using a catch phrase on the main page, or maybe even a famous quote would work well. I did some searching and came up with a couple that could be used (below). It is possible to have a random selection of several different quotes appear each time the page is loaded. I’ll post some java code later to show how I did it on my personal site. Feel free to add any quotes here that you’d like to include.

“There are ten or twenty basic truths, and life is the process of discovering them over and over and over.” – David Nichols

“There are many truths of which the full meaning cannot be realized until personal experience has brought it home.” – John Stuart Mill

“The pure and simple truth is rarely pure and never simple.” Oscar Wilde.

‘‘There is nothing as powerful as the truth and often nothing as strange.’’- Daniel Webster.

“Losing an illusion makes you wiser than finding a truth.” Ludwig Borne.

“Truth is what stands the test of time.” Albert Einstein.

I like the Wilde quote…seems to fit this short pretty well, eh?

The quote by Oscar Wilde is more than perfect!!!

Quoted for agreement!
