Web Hosting - Locking Directories

Heya all,

Im interested in finding a way to lock directories for portfolio work, to make it private, but accessable for people with a username / password.

i did a search and found this 1&1 site, they have a picture of their control panel here:

I see near the bottom an option called ‘Protected Directories’. Would this be what I’m looking for? Is this a pretty secure way to protect my work?

What you can do is upload two files to your directory that you want to protect. A .htaccess file, and a .htpasswd file. Those files contain a username an password that pops up like this: http://stats.thejokercomedyclub.nl. You can look up how this precisely works @ google. Just google htpasswd and you’ll find plenty.

If you can’t get it working let me know, I might be able to help you out with that.
