I’m working on this painting, it was due Wednesday, but the deadline just got moved to next Tuesday for extraneous reasons, so I thought I’d see what comments and crits people had on it while I’ve still got time to work on it. I’d say it’s only about 60-70% done right now. Her hair turns into water, which isn’t in there at all yet. C&C appreciated.

watermiss - c&c please
The composition is awesome, the only thing left to do is add more details, especially to the bottom half, which I’m sure you’re more than capable of pulling off.
almost done. Just gotta paint the water in at the bottom. Comments?
djtrousdale: Thanks. I’m using painter.
slickgreekgeo: will do. Almost there.
stuh505: debated on that for a while. I think I’m gonna try and keep it real loose and painterly, but not quite sure what it’ll look like yet;)

I cropped the waterfall off. It just wasn’t clickin after a full days work. I like it better. I worked over some of the other stuff. I think her hair is just going to be hair now, no water transformation. Bytheway, I never realized until today how much I’ve underappreciated ACDC. Good times.
Almost done now.

So, I just got rid of the water. It’s not clickin’ with me. The hair’s still kinda sketchy. Comments?

You know, I think the water was lovely. I think it may be the perspective that’s bugging you: I took the liberty of a quick paintover. I hope you don’t mind. It’s a beautiful painting, you should be very proud of it!

Thanks everyone - I’ve repainted the hair about 15 times today, and not been satisfied.
paperclip - Thanks, got your suggestion just as I was about to stop fiddling with it. I think it is the perspective like you said. I made a few more adjustments, and now I’m gonna stop looking at it for a month or so.
Gord - Thanks!
Sh@ke - thanks!
Arty - Thanks!

I’m gonna go post it in the finished section now. Oh wow, there’s like an application process. K, cheers - Beaux
One of the coolest teachers ever. His hands are all brush and the rest of him’s all heart.
You know, I’d really like a step by step of how you did this pic. Would that be possible? I’m sure everyone around here would appreciate it as well!
I’d love to. I’m flattered that you’d be interested. It may take a while though 'cause it’s midterms right now:D

So I just got reference for the next pose this morning. (P.S. Paperclip, don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten my promise;) I’m squished under deadlines currently, so I’m just gonna try and post more often for now. I’ll put together some movies and a few comments - for whatever they’re worth - when I catch up.) This is only half the reference though 'cause the painting’s got two figures. It’s weird, I had like all these other ideas that we were working on, and then she went over to the fountain to wash out her dress and abracadabra! The magic just happened!

Working with the golden mean and getting the composition in my mind. It’ll be a woodland setting. I don’t like how the sides are so box-ish. Gonna be either taller or wider.

Very excellent thread. I’m always too afraid to dive into painter because I’m so used to photoshop, but I certainly love the effect it gives paintings. Do you prefer the acrylic brushes or the oils? And, do you know how to do one of those painter progress animation things? I’ve seen Anry do them, but I’m not sure how they’re done. It certainly would be helpful to see such animations done for certain realism artists who do use painter, to see them work.
what program you use?
