I have been using an Aiptek 12000U (9 X 12") for over three years and in my opinion, it is one of the best kept secrets in the tablet market. It is much less expensive than the Wacom and IMO, performs equally well (wireless pen, Fkey mapping, etc). During that time I have had only one occasion to speak with the folks at Aiptek, and that was not problem related; that contact was about configurating the tablet to work with a dual screen display and I was attempting to do something the software for the tablet was not designed to do.
The support person I spoke with was knowledgable and when I explained what I was trying to do, even pointed me in the right direction in the tablet’s INI file (Win/XP) where I was eventually able to restrict my pen movement to only one screen on my system, increasing the resolution in the process.
Also during the time I have owned my tablet, Aiptek has released several new drivers for their tablet line, each time improving on the functionality.
I’m a Pshop and Illy addict and rely heavily on Fkey + Alt/Ctrl key combinations and the Fkey mappings on the Aiptek are indispensable. The tablet works equally well with Painter. The pen is pressure sensitive.
I recently purchased a new, smaller tablet from Aiptek (4.5 X 6" with wireless Bluetooth) for use with my laptop (Vista). This product is really great as well. It’s small, portable (wireless), can be packed in my laptop bag, and taken cross-country with me.
I am a professional photographer and graphics illustrator and rely heavily on my tablet. I have found that I really don’t need the prestige (and expense) of having a Wacom hood ornament on my tablet to get work out the door.
Hope this helps …
