Vue 6 XStream or Just Vue 6 Infinite

#1

Hello all,
I am a Vue 5 Infinite owner and was thinking of upgrading to Vue 6 Infinite. But, since I also use LW and C4D I was wondering if I should go for the XStream version. I guess I wanted to find out If people are having problems/issues using Vue XStream with either LW 9.3 or C4d 10.5.
btw, I have no problem just using Vue alone but the render engine in Vue 5 I (if I remember right) wasn’t as good as either LW or C4D (without huge render times that is).

Any advice would be appreciated

If you don’t really need the features of xStream then I would stick with Infinite … maybe upgrade to 6.6 as the eco painting is a very welcome feature.

As for xStream, I am using it with C4D (R9.6) and have a LOT of issues, mainly the lighting and render settings (AO and GI) aren’t always compatible between C4D and xStream. Also, HAIR is a problem with xStream, since both are post-process … unless you generate polygons for the HAIR. Still, getting the mix of Vue lights and C4D lights working isn’t always the best.
Vue lights are limited in features, so if you want some specific area shadows, etc… you’re in trouble getting it right.

Combinations of C4D sky and Vue atmosphere is a problem as well.

Anyway, maybe I am just too negative as I have been using xStream for a year now, and have not been able to create a decent workflow. xStream is nice, but just too limited. Crashes have been reduced over the last releases (they still occur now and then), but still not as stable as C4D.

If there was an alternative to xStream, I’d probably ditch Vue … just MY opinion of course.

Did not know 6.6 was out. Which software has the “eco paint” bundle. Xtream or Infinite? I also think they are the same upgrade price. Worth it I think!

xStream is the same as Infinite only that it ships with a plugin running in the host 3D application of your choice (in my case, Cinema4D). Otherwise the two are identical pieces of software regarding the Vue part.

I am not sure 6.6 is already officially available, might be still in beta … but you get to download it as an update. Haven’t used it thought, still running 6.50-4 (not to fond of upgrading software in the middle of an heavy project).

xStream will probably have a higher upgrade price than Infinite, I guess.

We have C4D 10.1 and xStream 6.6. The plugin for C4D is very unstable, almost unusable. Maybe it’s a Mac thing, but we spent the extra money for that version and have never used it because of the bugs in it. I think if you’re trying to add some simple objects to the scene, or really tweak the camera, it may be useful, but anything more advanced just causes problems.

I think you should wait vue 7.

the xstream plugin for LW on mac is still completely unusable in production. there are lots of issues with the GUI integration of the plugin with layout. for example, atm you can’t see ecosystems in layout viewport, which makes the whole system pretty useless. they are working on it, but this seems to take much more time than expected… on windows side it seems to work better, though.

cheers
