Vue 10.5 xStream Stability Question

#1

I have owned xStream since around v6, and each time I upgrade I hope that it will be more stable. I am now on 9.5, and while running it standalone (Infinite) works fine, running Vue within Max 2012 is horribly unstable, with frequent crashes to desktop even with VERY simple scenes (3 heightfields, one sea, one atmosphere, one Max model with <50k polygons).

Can anyone tell me if Vue 10.5 xStream is any more stable within Max? I’m ready to just stop upgrading, or switch to standalone and comp in all my Max work, but I’m looking for some opinions on whether E-on has actually gotten things to work properly within Max (either 2012 or 2013).

I just got the upgrade, and in Max it is pretty unstable. It crashes all the time and makes navigating in Max a nightmare. (The views don’t respond to zooming in or reset themselves). :banghead:

So if you are going to use it, save often and change names of the files because you might not be able to open it again.

I consider it a “Prayware” at this point – a new word to remember

Not a chance in hell, E-on knock out new software at a rate of knots and pay no attention whatsoever to users needs or problems.

Thier pricing structure would be better written in sanscrit for all the good it is to understand and the ‘feature’ productions it has been used in do not tell you the painstakingly long hours of post work needed to get the look right for the finished shots.

I stopped using it when the commercial version of Terragen 2 came out, which has been used in several big budget films and the shots in some came straight out of the renderer with no post work needed at all!

A few more comments:

Vue 10 Xtereme in the Max doesn’t even behave like an beta software …more like an early alpha. And it costed me almost a $1000 for the honor upgrading from Infinite 9.5. Everything you touch is prayer.

  1. It crashes a lot.

  2. When you save a file it might not open ever again. (It happened with the first scene I’ve saved)

  3. Things move within the file (if you are lucky that it opens again). Mountains move, cameras move, who knows what else moves…

  4. If you use eco-painting the view-ports become covered with abstract paintings – (impossible to see anything)

  5. I tried depth render elements and instead of recording distances, some distant areas have patterns (of vegetation or maps) – which makes z-channel useless for AfterEffects.

  6. And the speed improvement? (I don’t see it and after upgrading my previous version no longer works, so I can’t go back and compare).

Those are problems I’ve encountered in two days. I am not sure, I am a masochist enough to continue. I feel truly disgusted!

In short: STAY AWAY and don’t waste your money!
