Vray RT SLI?

#1

I’m doing some render speeds tests. I am trying vray rt on my workstation and using distributed rendering to use another gpu on another system. My main pc has a gtx 980 and the other pc has a gtx960. However if I render only with the 980 the render time is about 3.5min and when i use distributed rendering the render time is about 3.05min. So not really a big improvement. Have been playing with the bundle size.

Now I’m wondering if i upgrade my workstation and add another gtx in my pc. Will that increase the render speed? Is it possible to have a gtx 980 and gtx 960 in one system? Does VrayRT suport this setup and will it increase the render time more then on a distributed render setup?

Couldn’t find much info on this subject…

Well, I literally have no experience in the GPU rendering front but as far as I’ve read online you actually don’t want to SLI the graphic cards together as that would actually slow things down.

What is important is that you have your PCI-E lanes working fast enough, not so much because of the rendering itself but data transfer (if you have big files) and that you pay attention to your lowest amount of VRAM.

You can put in any type of video cards, including different generations.

Like I said, I’ve read about this a few days ago, I think it was on Octane forum but if nothing else, its a little topic bump :arteest:
