Thank you for posting the scene but where can I find the ‘DGS_fresnel’ material? Sorry to bother you again.
VRay-like interior renders with mental ray???
where can I find the ‘DGS_fresnel’ material
http://www.bmcaff.com/shaders/UsefulPhenM6.zip

great website!!
edit:
mouser u can use DGS for the chair… the difference is a metal chair or a plastic chair, nothing else
Thank you Popol. After adding another missing one (ReflectionUtility 1.3), I finally managed to produce a similar result. Thanks for all your kind help.
andronikos916 good looking render.
In the specular reflections of the light, the reflections look pretty jaggy, are they polys showing up, not smoothing in the reflections ?
Yup, I’ve seen it over in the Maxwell forum.
That is a very good image. I like those reflections and it is noise free.
How long was the render ?
Maxwell is awesome (can’t wait for Pablo to do the Rhino port).

P.S. If you don’t mind posting the model, I can try it with AIR. I think it may be possible in about 3min or less.
can you share the chair to render it with maxwell???
Andronikos,
Sorry, I uploaded to my server, then I got distracted and forgot to post the link.
Here is the model: TestChair.7z
(It is a 7zip file. You can unzip it using PowerArchiver)

Sorry guys…a little off subject
The green chair on page 17 created by dagon1978…how is the reflection utility conected
to the shader or is it connected somewhere else? vbmenu_register(“postmenu_1923712”, true);
i think isn’t too important what shader do u use for this render
i’ve simply used a dgs_fresnel to make a plastic-like shader, nothing else
yea, you could use a simple phong shader, but the advantage of using the DGS is speed of render.Ive heard something that with the Maya 6.5 things are faster specially with MR
:buttrock:
Hi dagon1978,
Yes this is an occlusion render.
Still learning the package. I am sure there is a way to improve color bleeding on the image.
So far I am really impressed by the occlusion speed of AIR. The images can come ultra smooth and with high antialiasing and tight sampling rates and they are still fast.

Dont suppose theres any chance of anyone releasing some open source files for 3dmax? We see thousands of great renders but very little in the way of open source. Lot of settings isnt a great help when most settings are missed off that make a huge difference. It would be nice to see some open source lighting of high quality. If anyone knows of any please let me know.
some more renderings with maxwell that I did… not finished yet…but you can understand the overall illumination.
