VRay-like interior renders with mental ray???

#241

Nice render Thomas, I like the soft shadows.

#242

can you share the chair to render it with maxwell???

#243

AI-X : Yes it’s hard. Dirtmap makes it more easy, but it still don’t match.

ThomasAn. : That’ VERY nice. That AIR render is fantastic! Nice chair BTW…

Hi everyone,

Thank you for the good words.
(although I do not know Air all that well yet, its only been a month with the demo).

Andronikos,
I have maxwell too but I can not use without the Rhino plugin  so I have to wait patiently (although I seriously doubt it will ever do the rapid render-times that Air or Vray can offer)

Here is the model (it had to be converted from nurbs, let me know it comes in Max correctly)
TestChair.7z

(Can you unzip 7zip files ? its from Power Archiver… )

Well, i dont think its hard to duplicate this kind of image with MR, here is just an example using just FG, no GI, no area lights, just the IBL sphere with a white color and FG 450 rays. I really dont see the difference between the MR and Air or even Maxwell, its just a matter of tweaking the scene and the Render. Also, its kinda difficult to compare Teapots or a simple chair , with some high level models.Im sure most ppl will say that this render its not the same as the one with Air or Maxwell, but honestly i cant see the difference.

Here is a render i did, with Maya and MR, this one using the help of Dirtmap, to enhance the contact shadows.

Render time 3min 19sec. (including DOF)
No post process of any kind.
AMD64 3200 1Gb

With no texture:

With texture applied: 4min 32sec

Nice thread guys, been following it quite a while now. If I find some spare time, I’ll make a test with chair too on MR

ThomasAn, I dont think that posting scenes with dof of motionblur makes any sense here. Since different renderers implement such features differently. Especially it doesnt make any sense when comparing MR and RM in this area, they are just totally different breeds in this area.

#248

try to render an interior or exterior scene with AIR… all these are good but not usefull enought…

#249

Andronikos,

If you look several posts up, there is a room scene I posted (I believe it was your model initially). That scene was done in 15min.

I am working on it again and I believe it can go down to 7min (we will see).

great rendering Thomas!
but i think isn’t impossible to do same results with mray
this is my little test, gi+fg (color bleed, diffuse multibounce ecc ecc)
look at the time and the pc specs

YES! YES! and YES dragon1978. That’s a good MR render of my chair.

Some info on the settings?

#252

@dagon1978:

I like the result and the rendertime. On my puter (Athtlon XP 2000) it takes 15 min to get similar results. Any chance you post the scene? Thank you.

#253

…thats it…it is possible…ppl should think again when using the word “impossible”…

here is a new test i did too…

#254

thanx poly (for the model too  )

just a spot/mr area light
12000 photons

gi 512 - 2
fg 1100 0.9 - 8 (fg view)

#255

sedia airlike
nothing special…
just two things:
i’v used an ibl with a jpg (u can use what u want, i think isn’t important)
for the plastic i’v used the DGS_fresnel material

that’s all! :scream:

You’re right slipknot66. Impossible is a nasty word…
Nice render, but that green “thing” is ugly…

Thank you guys!

#257

futuramaaaaa  nothing is impossible, hehe
not on the talk, cool images guys!! keep it on

#258

the word could be “difficult”…
and yea… i agree with you… that thing is “horrible”… :stuck_out_tongue:

#259

ouch!!
another thing…
if u have downloaded my scene, tourn off the glossy reflection of the plane (lambert material)
this is a test that i make later…
i forget it :stuck_out_tongue:
sorry

now the scene is right (i hope…)

Thomas there some fast renders, its great to see the difference in speed between different renderers and there features, DOF, secondary illumination, motion blur etc…
Keep em coming, I’m interested.
