VRay for 3ds Max and Ptex, nothing yet ?

#1

Hi all,

Does anyone have info about the support of Ptex in VRay for 3ds Max ? VRay for Maya support it since a few month now, but still nothing for 3ds max …

Ptex in Mudbox 2012 look really cool, it seem to be the perfect way to get rid off UVs (I don’t Photoshop textures).

But I use 3ds max and VRay so I can’t do anything with the exported Ptex file :frowning:

Is ZBrush AUV system working as well as ptex ? I have heard about displacement problem with AUV ?

I know in ZBrush I will still have to subdivide the mesh to paint detail but while waiting for a Vray / Ptex support, it could be a nice alternative.

Thank to let me know.

PS : Sorry for my english.

PTex is a relatively new technique; UVs might stick around for a while longer. In any case, the next service pack of V-Ray 2.0 for 3ds Max will include PTex support. It is expected sometime in December this year, if all goes well.

Best regards,
Vlado
