vray displacement problem


Anyone seen this before? I’m getting what looks like contour lines from my displacement on a sphere. Its a smoke map driving it, so procedural:


Are you using a displacement map or is it a procedural map?

Looks like stepping caused by using an 8bit source…

Either use a 32bit bitmap or a floating point as source for displacement.

It looks like you might be using max’s smoke procedural map as a source? I think that one is only 8bits.

I never understood why the smoke map is only 8bit (and only 2D aswel) …

Try Bercon maps. They are pretty awesome and free
