Vray & Color Management

#1

I’ve been diving pretty hard into Vray for Maya and I am in love with this render engine. The one thing I am trying to figure out is linear workflow. When rendering with mental ray you have a color management tab right on the settings window, but in Vray you don’t.

Now do I just assume Vray did not adapt Maya’s color management, and keep working with gamma correct nodes or does it actually affect the render when turned on and trust that it is compatible with Vray hence ignoring the gamma correction?

Moved to the rendering subforum for you. Please, do use the subforums when appropriate (rigging/rendering/dynamics/programming).

As for the topic, remember to mention what versions. Maya has seen improvments recently in those regards and they’ve shown previews of more to come. Working with vRay 2 in Maya 2012 is likely very different than being on the bleeding edge with both

It’s in the Render Settings / Vray tab / Color mapping rollout, and you have more display controls at the bottom of the vray viewer. There’s also attributes you can assign to texture nodes for their input gamma.
