I noticed something a little strange with the voting system over at cgchallenge, and unfortunately I don’t have the math skills to figure out a solution but here is the deal…
By the current system, a person’s average score is not considered. Only their total score. This make it possible for someone to, for example, have 500 scores of 1 and beat someone that has 20 scores of 5.
Being the lonely nerd that I am, I decided to spend a sad portion of my saturday evening taking averages from the first page of the 3d challenge:
NAME__________SCORE________VOTES________AVERAGE
Dr. Jones________564__________147__________3.84
Erik____________400__________103__________3.88
Frinsklen________367___________94__________3.9
Korn_Art________362___________93__________3.89
Ila_Solomo______345___________87__________3.97
Joril____________325___________85_________3.82
Rye____________284___________76_________3.74
Mtmckinley_______278__________75__________3.71
Levin___________274__________77__________3.56
DimitrisLiatsos____272__________73__________3.73
As you can see in the above segment, going by average score, Ila Solomon is actually #1 followed by Frinsklen and then Korn_Art.
Unfortunately, if you JUST use averages you have another problem. That someone with a single score of 5, would beat someone with 30 scores varying between 4 and 5.
I imagine that there is some way to factor in both pieces of data fairly, but I majored in Art.
