VOTE! : FXWARS Close Encounters

Hi guys, Roberto here.

I just wanted to say thanks to all that made the Dracula’s Castle FXWARS a success.
All the entries were great but it is obvious that 3 entries went ahead of the pack.

Comment: (Story is about the UFO bymistake entered to the earth and crashed near the wheatfield.it’s hard for alien to live on earth’s environment.it alive for few hours and after that its whole body burned out due to atmosphere.and also Crop circle is found in the middle of wheatfield…)

I use 3ds max8 for modelling, particlefx and some compositing, combustion and photoshop for postproduction.Everything is done without any plugin.I didn’t own any digital camera yet.so i had limitation to do my piece on
still images.and i also tried to move camera on still images to make it live and also faked DOF in 3ds max for alien burn/burst shot.No matter who wins , i learned a lot during the making this.anyway below is the mirror link to final animation if above didn’t work.

Yeah Roberto! You did manage it again! :scream: Now just hope that all CGTalk-members will go watching and voting, and that the servers don’t let us down!

How long will it be plugged? (of when will the voting close?) And can you see how often there is voted yet (not the votes per team, but just ‘the number of people that voted’ )?

#8

The voting closes on Friday…

I’ll tally the votes then.

The voting/FXWars is unplugged from the frontpage?!? Is this really ‘the end’ of the publicity about it (after just 1 day?), or is it ‘temporary’ taken off the frontpage?

Will I need to rehost my files unless the unplug, Roberto? To me all my files (all File-lodge stuff) work well (tried it on different computers and different locations), but maybe it can be different at the other side of the globe?

#15

filelodge has been very sporadic, one minute it’s completely off the next it’s working fine.

#16

Well the thread is off the front page.

We had a good run.
and for those concerned about thisl keep in mind that the voting thread had 3,034 hits.

And here are the numbers for the number of downloads for the compilation reel.

(16 Megs) 582 downloads
(6 Megs) 99 downloads
(3 Megs) 95 downloads

800 people downloaded my compilation.

BTW did you guys like the compilation?
I have not yet gotten any feedback on it…
:frowning:

PS And for those with file hosting problems, use Savefile.com. They work like a charm for me

Congrats to all that finished – lots of fun stuff this round! Sorry I didn’t have time to participate myself – although I think I’m in on the next one. Good excuse to play with my new Nikon that can shoot RAW format (FINALLY!)… now to go get a Panosaur mount…

An odd thing I noticed when voting was that the voting thread told me that I’d already voted after I hit submit. Do you guys think it went through, or maybe was it still stuck on the same cookie from the Dracula challenge?

Roberto: I did like the showreel this time out, although I could have done without the muzak  – but that’s more a taste issue than an effectiveness one.

I had a really hard time downloading the full, individual versions this time out. The showreel was the only place I could see everything in order to vote, and it had consistency in placement of names, etc going for it when I was scrubbing back & forth casting my votes.

Not sure about some of the categories like best editing when you only have access to the showreel and several of the entries are heavily condensed. Just something to think about. Definitely heading in the right direction. The easier it is to participate (including vote!), the faster the community will grow.

Cheers,

–T

Sorry Roberto. The compilation was fantastic, I had not seen the ones from other challenges. It really showcased the entries very well, great music too! And it was great seeing Akin’s alien on it

I wonder how many people were actually able to download the animations…

Owkay… I uploaded some mirrors because of the advices (it won’t be cool to get no interest/views at all), so here are some!
