!!!Vote for Image Contest Topic!!!

Nah they need poses. The set would be the only common element. You then have the freedom to create your character any way you want.

If you don’t have time to pose it then you can submit it as is. . . but you will be up against those who have taken the time to rig. . .

I really can’t think of any rules beyond common sense and the ones I listed above.

Wasn’t there once a fuss on the AMList when a guy entered having posted what was almost a photoshop image on a relatively flat mesh?
Not really modeled in 3dimensions but it was still a model nonetheless? And he’d used AM so it stood. Very comic book style of image if I recall.

Going to check backwards on the AM Image contest page now.

EDIT-
checked the galleries. My mistake. Going mad.

Well we will see right away the methods people will be using during their WIP threads.

In a way its like playing poker with all your cards out for everyone else to see. You can’t really cheat. . .

Also I think the winner of this contest should be willing to submit their model to the next animation contest. So that we are all animating the same character.

Would we all be ok with that?

#24

It’s okay with me. If I won the modeling contest, I would enjoy seeing how others brought my model to life.

Sorry if I led you wrong Wegg (still sure I saw this come up though!)

Also I think the winner of this contest should be willing to submit their model to the next animation contest.

fine with me!

No, you were right.

The style Mike uses falls in between 2d and 3d. I doubt we would have that issue here as you are required to show your work in progress.

Can’t wait for this to start. I missed both CGTalk challenges I entered due to workload. I won’t let that happen with this one.

Good luck all!

fine with me too.

Uhh, not really, but we’ll cross that river if and when it comes to it… (First I’d have to participate, then finish in time, then win… )

I agree with the common enviro thing. I am also willing to give up whatever model I make to the community when I lose to Jim, lol.

Now, who’s going to make the enviro? Not me!

Also, since this is a Still Image contest I will probably be using the basic basic of rigs for my character.

I still say no retouch in Photoshop, especially if the models or model will be used in an Ani contest.

#30

Oh yeah, I agree with the no retouch policy too. 1) because I don’t have photoshop and 2) i think it will push us all to push the limits of A:M which is my only reason to do the contest.

#31

I don’t mind a bit of post. Hell we never let a render go without adjusting something. Add a little bloom, some Grain. . . color adjust it a touch. . . that kind of thing.

Painting out bad modeling wouldn’t be advisable.

#32

Ok, I can go for the little post. I meant the painting of model imperfections anyway :).

#33

I like all 3 of the leading topics for modeling. I would be happy to do any of them., but is there a deadline to vote? I can’t wait to start. Somebody say “GO!”

Jim

#34

so is this gonna be a textured model or just the model? i for one have yet to texture anything worth a damn…might be a good place to start.

how about this?
contest part1:maybe we could do just a model.

contest part2: the winning model would be used for a texturing competition.

contest part3: the winning textured model would be given out for the animation competition.

You have to just dive in mate.

If you can’t model, texture, rig and pose a model in a Month. . . then. . .

<picture me trying to think of something to say>

Well you will need to learn.

where does the animation come in, if all we have to do is pose the model? maybe i missed something…actually, i’m pretty damn sure i did. help the slow kid…please!

kungfud0rk

#37

The animation will be a separate contest after the modeling (image) contest.

Jim

#38

No it hasn’t started.

I’ll be a little distracted these next couple of days so I won’t be able to put much thought into the “official” rules etc.

If anyone else wants to work with me on it I could probably use the help.

I don’t have the latest version either…I’m still struggling through the 9.51e problems. My post was originally longer, but, I’m trying not to preach to the choir. I just wanted to point out that people in my situation would not be able to submit bug reports since they would only serve to irritate Hash and get me absolutely nowhere. Sorry if you object to my use of terms. I’m sure “gripes” would be how Hash would characterize them.

Unfortunately, it’s hard to interpret someone’s tone in these posts. I’m not sure if I should be upset at your tone or not, but I do know that I didn’t mean anything negative in my post…or this one. If I’m able to get my “fancy motorbike” that is 9.51e to work long enough, I may submit something…you never know.
