!!!Vote for Image Contest Topic!!!

#1

Well we got 30 who said yes and 3 party poopers so. . . lets do this thing.

Vote for the topic you would be most interested in. We can start discussing rules n stuff now.

I’m thinking. . .

One single 800 X 600 image.

1 month.

Must start and maintain your own contest specific WIP thread (Not in the main WIP section) showing at least three stages of production from sketch to final render. That means answering questions and being nice to those who are a little newer at this.

Something like.

WIP:Contest:<name of image>

Must report a running tally of issues with Animation Master in your WIP thread, report how you got around these issues and also mail them all to support@hash.com.

(I feel this last “rule” is important. It will allow us to help de-bug the software, allert Hash Inc. (and others) to common issues and how to get around them in a POSITIVE non bashing manner.)

I’ll round up some well respected artists for the final judging and. . .

Hmm. . .

$50 to spend on Eggprops for the winner! (Don’t all groan. . . its the best I could think of.)

If anyone else wants to chip something else into the prize pot. . . let me know.

Sounds good to me. Should make some intresting threads.
You seem to have picked some really fun topics. Why do we have to vote for just one?

David

#3

Because. . .

I dunno.

I guess thats just how polls work.

#4

What I mean is you may get more people to enter if you just let them pick the topic they like out of the five.
just a thought

I think its important to narrow it down. The Hash contests are so hard to judge because each entry is vastly different from the next. The topics are just too vague.

#6

Cool. I like the rules and the positive results that can come from it all.

And thanks for putting up a prize, Wegg.

I’ll second that!

Yeah, Wegg, thanks. What a guy:). Btw, are you going to enter the contest?

#9

He better!

#10

oohhh! $50 @ eggprogs. That’s more than generous.

I can’t wait for this to start.

I think we should do all the topics for an Image contest. We will just do them in order of percentage. Anyone agree with that? That way everyone get’s a chance to work on the topic they voted for.

Either way. I’ll try to do this. Don’t know about the sketching thing since I rarely do prework. I usually just start modeling and go from there.

Edit: Was reading the old post of this and agree with the longer time period for the contest. Now is this an “Image” contest or a “Model” contest. Are we to build an entire scene with textureson everything, or are we just building a model, no textures. I think this should be stated right now before we go any farther.

Are we also disallowing retouch in Photoshop and the like?

I won’t have time to participate on a personal level but i can offer a free copy of Animation:Master 2002 A Complete Guide signed by the author  to the kitty, which would bring the value of the pot to $95.95 USD! (if that’s allright with you wegg. )

Making the e-mailing of issues with the software to support@hash.com would not work for anyone using something other than the current version of AM. I don’t think they want to hear someone griping about v9.x or earlier.

There are a few of us working with older versions (myself included) but why would you call mailing software issues “gripes?”
Wegg asked that we also post problems and workarounds here and that would help users on this forum.

Agreed, Hash have little interest in the use of older versions as they develop newer ones - but if my rusty old bike beats your fancy motorbike itsjustme, you’ll hear me shout from the rooftops!

haha! lets get this competition running!

#15

That would be awesome David ! I really can’t wait for it to start now. hehe. By the looks of it, it looks like it’s gonna be the 8th dwarf contest. Wegg, will you be adding rules to the contest once this voting is done?

George

Rules?

Hmm.

No biting.

I dunno dude. I haven’t ever done anything like this before. Anyone else want to propose some?

Thats a good question about the enviroment though. I think one of us might have to step out and create a common environment for everyone to render their final model in. That way its not really about lighting or fancy set peices or anything. One common set. . .

What do you think?

#17

might run into problems if the environment or lighting set-up is done in a fancy newer version of AM.

Actually, have we agreed that older versions are allowed in?

#18

I think any version should be allowed. It’s first a modeling contest and second a bug hunt. But we should try to use v10.5 if we have it.

When do we start?

Jim

#19

I’m pretty sure we could get a set built in 8.5 that would work in 9.X and 10.X. I’d just like to see everything framed in something nice. I cringe whenever I see that ground plane. . .

I guess we can start once everyone is happy with the rules.

#20

If we render from a common chor to match everything to each other except our own model, does that mean we should also just keep the model in the arms out position and not pose them?

So many questions… so little time to model.
