Volumetric light projecting image sequence - Question to Taron

#1

Dear Taron,
(and anybody else who can help on this matter)
I am LW user, but have run into some problem with one effect, which is not really solvable inside my main app. In my quest of finding a solution I came across a messiahs volumetrics which appear very fast and a good quality to accomplish the effect. But what I need is to use spot light to project image sequence and simulate volumetric laser show effect. What I have found out is that the image option in the spotlight doesnt take the sequence, only a first frame. It will be a 5 minutes of video so any manual switching of frames is out of question)
I checked on IRC channel, and others also confirmed that its not just my bad use of that feature. And also adviced me to try asking here if there is some other way to do this, (or a way to kill that small insect there?:))
I am currently just playing with a demo of 2.4 so I cant send a scene to check …
Nice day to all 3D enthusiasts and twice as nice to Taron who was my inspiration from my beginings with lightwave 3d (Version 5.6 LOL):))

I haven’t had to use this as yet, buy it appears that I can load and set my sequence of frames, and put that into the light. However, it only renders the first image without advancing.

Maybe I’m missing something, or perhaps you were the first to try this on the new version.

Anyone else?

Best,
Rick

Hummm…that seems to be a recent trend…I’ve heard it a moment ago already, but didn’t get to check into it, yet! Sure thing…we’ll make that work! That’s a ridiculous bug and something that has to work for sure, no worries! We’ll let you all know when it’s done! Wacky stuff… :banghead:

Thanx a lot and sorry about that! Damn them hidden issues…I mean, who would expect a problem like that… :wip:

Taron,

One other thing I noticed in the Light block. I put in the image sequence, which I had loaded in the Image Manager, into the Light block. It projected…but only the one frame. (However, the images do sequence in the background view, if you set that display for registering something.)

Now, when I went to remove the image from the Light block, I only saw Delete Images as the option. When I did that, I did not realize it would delete the sequence from the Image Manager as well. Maybe I am misunderstanding something.

Shouldn’t there be a “None” option. It seems odd that I could delete an Image Sequence, which might be used somewhere else in the scene as well, from the Light options.

Best,
Rick

Yes, and I think I begin to remember a possible reason for why this whole thing got so neglected! If I remember correctly we were going to make a whole light-material thing, even thought we had it, too. This was to replace the separate parameters for images and such. I will dig some deeper asap, so all I can tell you right now is “rest asured” it’ll be taken care of right away! Again, thanx to everyone, who mentioned it already!

Dear Taron,
thank you for taking care of that strange insect. Looking forward to hear about the solution.
Wish you all a nice weekend  stars above and solid ground to stand on …
