Vintage Kenwood Stereo

#1

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on a personal project, a render of a Kenwood KR-6170, a 70’s Stereo amplifier. I’m hoping to develop this into a small scene much like what you see on the front page of the gallery here.

I’m quite happy with how it is looking at the moment, but I’m looking for any critique that people can give on the project so far!

I’ve been working in 3ds Max with V-Ray so far.

Cheers!

This looks really nice, I would really like to see it in nice scene, but nothing to complain about right now

The only thing I would suggest doing is changing the speaker stands, where there’s the two of them and they’re on the thinner side they give they look like the speakers could get up and start walking away. Maybe something closer to these where it’s just the one wider column style?

Hmm, that’s not a bad idea!
I was modelling based on this photograph initially:

Thanks Winside  I’m working on the scene now, going towards something like these:

I’ve taken the advice on the speaker stands, much more sturdy looking now!

Going to build the cabinet next I think!

Progress!

You already posted a thread for this:

I’ve closed that one, just to keep things organised, but please don’t create duplicate threads in future. Thanks!

Thanks Leigh! I’d posted in the support forum when I realised I did it, cheers for sorting it out

I’ve tried a few different floors out, and have gone for a pine planking.

I’m not completely happy with the shape of the boards at the moment, I might put some dips and warps in there. Also need to get rid of those firefly highlights on the edges.

If anyone has any pointers, particularly on the flooring, please do comment!

Looks great very nice work overall, the textures and modeling is really impressive :keenly:
Will you keep this looking all brand new or have you thought about maybe adding some dirt, dings and dents to it? Even if you want it to look new and well preserved some minor dirt and scrathces might bring even more life to this image. I think the floor boards looks good, they could however also use some dirt/scrathes same with the walls and the floor list.

I’m going for a “photographed in the 70’s” look, so new-ish and clean, but with some natural wear and tear. I’ll look into adding some dirt to the textures.

I’ve been breaking up the design by slightly offsetting all the components as they would be in reality. In the latest version I have some grubby records in the cupboard which helps I think.

Cheers for the feedback!

Latest version:

Added a few new details including cables, socket plates and the records.
Also, swapped out the floor for a smaller planked wood, and using a couple of layered warps to push them around.
