For starters the cgwiki from tokeru is a awesome resource: HoudiniVex - cgwiki
In addition the intro to vex from Ruben Mayor gives a nice idea of some principles: https://vimeo.com/138426421

Hope it helps.

I’ve watched that tutorial and others but there are some things which are a blur. I’ve figured out some issues but others, as in some of the vex syntax I don’t understand.

VEX is loosely based on C so you might wanna look that up. As for the principles you might want to go through the VEX-cgwiki i posted before. It has a lot of examples to get a better understanding. Also the Wrangle Workshop from SideFX does a great job in explaining the principals: https://vimeo.com/67677051 (You probably already know this one)
Knowing other languages definetly will help. But if you got specific questions you might just ask them here and at odforce. Or you could try asking Mike who put together the awesome wiki page.
