Vert Weld/Combine - HOW?

#1

I’ve pretty much learned how to model where this isn’t needed, but I have been importing models from other packages, such as Milkshape, where it is absolutly needed.

Now I know an easy answer would be to fix it in the other package - but lets say it isn’t available.

I have three faces That I need to share verts.

Here is an illistration of what I’m trying to do, I’m just not having any success in doing it.

I had tried:

  • delete EDGE, the Select Verts and connect, didn’t reach/connect.
  • Tweaking the points ontop of eachother and doing a Clean-up
  • Twaeking the points, selecting faces and doing a Weld.
  • Briding the faces (Bad geomentry results…thought the closest to success)

Thanx,

Usually when two verts won’t weld/merge,I connect them together and collapse the newly created edge although it looks like your geometry is ‘open’ somewhere keeping them from doing so…

Correct, you will never get to any of these stages ‘hopefully’ winged edge technology works with solids exclusively (I think, atleast wings do). Have you really got yourself into the state of the first image? If, could you please screenshot your model and pm or post here. What im wondering is if you have floating geometry bewtween those faces or if they are completely separated.

Added the pictures and a zip file with all the models.

  • The “face.wings” is where I’m having problmes
  • Included the fixed portion of the model (bandit.wings"
  • and the original (messed up) model “bandit.3ds”

http://www.geocities.com/n2geoff/wings3d/problems.html

  • First “Image State” is above the right eye.

  • The the model is a series of floating faces.

Note this model is originally from WarCarft III. My initial purpose was to see how the models looked, thier poly count ect, so that I could create my own for a little cinematic mod. Finding the geomentry screwed up lead me to learning how to fix it.

I’m not sure, but from the look of your geometry graph,I think your object has been exploded into separate triangles during conversion.

You’ll need to select and weld all face together before being able to make any change to the overall geometry.

If I understand correctly from the bitmap also, you’d just need to cut a vertex on the upper eye edge and then ‘connect’ it to the corner point…Then just collapse the edge to merge both vertice.

“when we have an edge, sharing with more than 2 faces” this happens, you have to fix it before exporting. I dont know about it really, but i was told that was the problem.

1 of these edges will make the entire model explode.

Any ideas on weld settings?

I had tried the default(.001), and moved up to (.2), but nothing happened.

By any chance is there a rule of thumb for moving up in weld settings? like go in increments of .025, or .2?

I’m about ready to abandon the face, and create a new one.

I also realize - little late - that this issue is addressed here:
