various nCloth issues

#1

We’re having a multitude of issues using nCloth. Maybe some of you can help us out. Maya 2013

1)We can’t save or use painted maps with references citing illegal name characters. This error would be refering to the namespaces. How do we overcome that?

2)Painted attribute values (the B/W or color ramp) can only be seen when viewport 2.0 is being used. Shouldn’t the default viewport be able to do this?

3)Sometimes when we try to paint we get an error saying there is a different number of verts from the input mesh. They are not, and it prevents painting.

4)paint nCloth attributes: We change the paintable attribute to collision (or whatever) and the UI changes it to ’ thickness’. It appears to still be using the correct paint attribute so I assume this is a bug?

5)Paint info missing; Paint. Save it. Reopen the scene and some cloth objects we painted the day before have their painted information gone . why?

6)Does the UV space matter for painted attributes? Some of our Geo is not in the 0 to 1 space.

Also, is there some really good (not beginner stuff) tutorials out there?

so this is what I figured so far:
3)the ‘different number of verts’ issue was caused by a smoothPoly node that was placed in front of the outputCloth.

  1. a partial answer: it seems some of our geometry would not allow vertex painting even after all other issues were resolved. Once we created a cache for that geo they suddenly became paintable. ??

  2. UV space does not matter on vertex painting (because the data is stored in the vertex?).
