V-ray is vulnerable to dark areas

#1

Hello, I’m using v-ray for 3dsMax.
Compared to other tools, V-ray treats areas close to black as black, so it is vulnerable to dark scenes.
How can I widen the black area when creating a dark scene?

Create it lighter, and clamp in post.

You’re probably running into the light cutoff threshold, default is .001, so objects far enough away from the light source, where its brightness would be less than .001, won’t be calculated and is left at 0.0. Set the value low enough for your scene.

Lower values can also get too few AA samples if you’re using adaptive AA, so you’ll have to lower that threshold too, or it’ll be noisy

@mister3d Mult-ing it down would be the more accurate thing to do, clamping leads to flat areas and colour distortion
