UVW-mapping before or after mirroring?



If I’m to apply the method of making half or a quarter of an object (editable poly) and then copy, paste and mirror and put it all together, would it be wise to do the UVW-mapping and the textures before the copying or afterwards? Of course, it depends on whether you want symmetry or not, but apart from the aesthetical and the fact UVW-mapping an entire object would obviously mean more work - any pros or cons like different rendering times or anything?
