UV unwrap - save marked edges?

#1

Hi, I’m new to texturing and I’m learing the UV features in wings…
I’d like to know if it is possible to save your “marked edges for cut” or
your “AUV chart settings”, so that you can come back and make small
changes without having to remap your entire mesh over and over and
over again??
Maybe I’m just missing something, but I’d appreciate some help.

thanks,
Richard

Ah well I figured I’ll just paint the faces with dummy materials and then select by material edges when I open the UV window. At least that way I can save the regions and come back to make changes, as long as I remember to save a version of the file without mapping.

I’m not sure if this is what you’re asking (I’m new to wings and texturing too) but have you tried this:

Select > New group
(give your group a name … like ‘UV cuts’)

Then select your edges where you want cuts
Select > Add to group > (select your new group from the group list)

This will store the edges as a group for easy selection later.
Select > Select group > (your group name)

You can save/load selections in the main editor as well as the AutoUV window. So you can define the cuts in the main window while tweaking your model, then later go into AutoUV and load the selection and choose ‘Mark Edges for Cut’

Hope this is what you were asking. If not, sorry.

Well. If you mean you want to edit your old charts. You can’t, the feature was removed somewhere around 0.98.18 or something, when they rewrote the UV mapping thingy.

If you want to redo your maps now, you’ll need to delete your old ones.

Dgud said the old feature will be implemented sometime in future versions.

I may be wrong though, if so, Dgud may come in and smite me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, I figured something like that. I think groups sounds like the way to go, although I haven’t used groups at all yet - probably a good time to learn

Here’s way I set up UV’s so I can go back and make changes later; I first make a handful of new materials, dummy materials as you called them and assign those as I would the UV charts. I then make the edges I want to cut along hard (select them, right click, hardness>hard). This seems to assign them to be cut when unwrapping, so it works about the same as saving marked edges, and makes it very easy to go back and make changes.
