UV texturing.. "cut UV edges" does not work properly

#1

Hi guys,
I am a newbie in maya and for the first time I am trying to texture one object I just created. The problem I am facing is quite weird and I will try to explain it in the best way possible. I wanted to apply a texture on my object (I was simply doing it with a “file” in my lambert material) but it looked stretched in some faces and I decided to UV map the whole object. What I do is:
-select the edges which are bounding some faces
-“cut uv edges”
-select the cutted faces in the “uv texture editor”
-use the “smooth tool” to fix those faces

My problem is the following one: when I select some faces I am pretty sure to select all the edges bounding those. But when I use “cut uv edges” and I select those cutted edges to bring them away from the main texture in the “uv texture editor”, they result still attached by some edge… but I am sure to select all the edges bounding those faces! Even if I select a simple square on a surface (It’s the easiest geometry I can isolate) it seems to be still attached sometimes. I know it is hard to explain my problem and I am sorry if it is not completely clear. Thanks in advance for your attention and if you need any further info do not hesitate to ask.

If you have not already go to:
Custom polygon display and turn on border edges… This will give you a better idea of which faces are cut and where.

Thanks for your reply and sorry if I am late replying you back. It actually didn’t help me sorry… what I did (if someone will read this post) was actually selecting those faces where I had the problem and use the “planar mapping” function to solve it. Thanks anyway
