UV Mapping & Surface Baking Catmull Clark SubD Model

#1

Does anyone know the best way to surface bake a catmull clark subD model ?

I am having a problem with UVs and surface baking when using catmull clark.

Firstly when I am in catmull clark mode, when I add UVs the UV window only displays points, not polys.

Secondly when I Try and surface bake the model in layout using Surface Bake Camera the UVs show as if they are not subD and are all square edged.

Any info or help would be great

Thanks!

Might not be helpful as I have never used the CC mode before.

Anyway for your second question, I would try freezing a copy of the mesh and bake the surfaces using the freezed model, then apply the image to the subD model.

Hope that helps

Hey thanks for your response but when you freeze the model the UV map squares off like a subD model with subD turned off.

Any other suggestions or ideas?

Open Vertex Maps panel and see if the UV-map is set to SubD. Don’t know if that will help with CC subds though…

There seems to be some major issues with CC SubD and UV-maps. Time to make a bugreport I guess…

Thanks cageman.

Ill give your suggestion a go, if there is major issues does that mean my CC model with edge sharpness needs to be scrapped and done in regular subD to UV it?

Well, to be honest with you, I’ve never used CCs for anything more than just to test it. Regular SubPatches works very well for what I do, so I have never felt the urge to use CC.

I recomend you to join Newteks forums. There are far more activity on that forum compared to this, and chances are much higher for you to get some very insightful information.

Sorry if I can’t help you more.

Good luck and a Merry X-mas to you!
