UV mapping & final rendering help?

#1

I’ve got two questions…

  1. I read the section in the Wings manual on UV mapping, so I understand it a little more, but it just raised another question in my mind: how do I color the charts it generates?

If it’s at all helpful, here’s what I’m trying to map:

(Sennen Ring from anime YuGiOh)
model complete, colored w/material (this image is only a screencap)

I’d like to take the charts from Wings and color them in another program, such as PhotoShop… can I do that? How?
How good a result does using an image as a material produce?

  1. How can I get a good quality render? (smooth lines, no jagged outlines, etc)
    Revealent programs:
    OpenGL 1.1.2
    Wings3D 0.98.26b (latest?)
    TrueSpace 3.2
Do I need to buy something expensive for this? x_x

This is only my second (more-or-less) completed model in Wings (or any 3D program, for that matter). Please explain things to me as if I know next-to-nothing about anything digital-3D-related. =P

Thank you for your help!

Hi BlueIce,

Here’s some link that will help you to create a UVmap for your object:
http://www.freewriters.ca/wings3d/autouvtut.htm
http://www.pagodaproductions.com/tiki/tiki-page.php?pageName=Wings3D+UV+Mapping
http://www.pagodaproductions.com/tiki/tiki-page.php?pageName=UV+Mapping

And to create a render with quality with cost free, you can donwload the Yafray (http://www.yafray.org), it’s a great render but it takes sometime to know how it works, but worth a look, really.
