UV Issues

#1

Well… I am just getting onto some UV usage again and I am having a heck of a time… been looking at a few tuts and read the manual for a refresher, but this problem is just freaking me out.

Let me know what I am doing wrong (if anything) before I post as a bug.

Snapshot 1:

Here is what I am working with.

Snapshot 2:

Here is my segmentation…

Snapshot 3:

This is the Unwrap Charts, the highlighted ones are the ones I am working with.

#4

Snapshot 4:

Here I moved the charts that I will not be dealing with out of the work area. As you can see the ones that matter have not moved at all.

#5

Snapshot 5:

Here is the result of applying the texture… as you can see, the charts in no way correspond to the locations of the polys… in fact they are way off.

Conclusion:

What is happening here? I am a newb at texturing, but this seems like a bug to me. UV is no longer “experimental” but if my recall is right, this was working several months ago in a much earlier release.

I was also under the impression that I could move my charts around (that’s why there is move & rotate commands, correct?). Everytime I move the charts around they don’t move the texture coords, only the lines that are supposed to represent them.

My intent is to be able to rearrange the UV charts so that I can use the free space for the UV charts of other objects, but if the charts don’t correspond to the tex-coords by default, what am I to do? Arrgh!!! I’m going to go to bed (if frustration lets me sleep), hopefully one of you wingers can’t give me a hand. TIA.

No responses?

Is it that you don’t know the answer, don’t see the problem, or just don’t like me

I’m really curious about what is causing this. I haven’t done anything with UV maps in Wings in several revs now, but I hope to soon.

Hopefully someone will clue us in

Hmm I am taking a wild guess, but the parts that you moved out of the work area might causing the problems… usually the uv-map is defined by a 1.0x1.0 area and everything outside gets just repeated over and over again… just like an infinite chess board (kinda).
So if you move the parts out of the work area (the 1.0x1.0 area) they are mapped to the part of the 1.0x1.0 area just one “chess-field” to the side or up… hard to explain :surprised

But I am not sure… and I didn’t really use the uv-map feature from wings3d yet… but thats how it is in other programms.

Hey J.K., that must be it.

When I move the charts off the work area, it blows the UVs out of the water. I started working with it again and then realized that at some point in the last few releases, bjorn added an “Ignore Charts” option, so I was able to just set the unimportant faces to that category and got what I wanted.

Thanx guys.
