Using Object Color pass inside AE to make selection?

#1

Alright.

I have a scene created in 3DS Max and rendered in several passes, including an “Object ID” pass, set-up to render and “Object Color” pass. Saved as an PNG (no alpha) this gives me an image with the objects of the scene colored as the wire color (as to expect).

I want to use this pass to select certain elements of my rendered image to make changes. For example: I have a fish with eyes, and I need to change the brightness of the eyes to make them a little bit brighter. The thing is, however, that I don’t know how to only select the eyes and make the changes.

Inside PS, I know I can use the “Object Color” pass to select (in this case) the eyes using the Magic Wand tool, select an adjustment layer, and PS will automatically add my selection to a mask of that layer. But After Effects off course doesn’t have a Magic Wand tool.

Any ideas?
