And it was VERY cool.
The UI and way it works is pretty different from AE and Combustion but it was a blast to learn all new stuff. It seems like a program that once you get past the initial “Whats that do”'s then you can make some cool stuff very effectively. Im looking foward to bothering you guys for secrets on this forum from now on lol.
Used shake for the first time today
Welcome aboard!
Personally the “what’s that do” is my favorite part of Shake and I hope it never goes away
Once you get into it and make some complex comps, show the node structure to your friends and watch how quick they’re faces go blank ![]()
Haha I have been amazing myself with them. I did a test comp and didnt look back and once I got done I zoomed out and felt pretty proud.
Thats not a shake tree, its an entire forest!
Whats the rendertime like for this? Do you only have one fileout node or multiple ones?
Dude, you’re my new hero ![]()
Whenever I work on a large project I can never keep things that organized and it all ends up looking like the Charlie Brown Xmas tree… Your tree is so organized and well kept, it’s just awe inspiring!
Can you offer some details on how you organized the tree (ie, what sections you grouped and why)?
Hehe… Ya, it’s ultrafast now, since that’s a tree from a long time ago. I foresaw that it was going to be a complicated comp, so I started the organization in the beginning. There’s three fileout nodes at the bottom. Check this thread out. Post #22. It goes into some detail on what the outcome of this tree was. Sorry to steal your thread btw, but shake only gets cooler the more you use it, and at the same time, more frustrating!
I don’t know how to use the 3D elements in Shake, I don’t know a lot about Colour Correcting, I know zip about Keying and masking and I’m having problems compositing the simplest of scenes right now.
However, your screen grab of your schematic has just made me shit my pants and cry like a little girl.
Thanks for ruining my day. I’m off to sulk in a corner somewhere…!!!
Wow Aruna! That link did not only open a new browser to me, it also opened new worlds!
To see how compositors really work in feature films, is just so very interesting… Before your images of your flows, I had never seen real production flows before! Your stuff is so amazing and brilliant! I really can’t wait to make another composition with Digital Fusion!
To show of After Effect really has a Node-View (but you can’t edit in it; Chris Maynard) explained it great in his audio talk about compositing applications), I’ve set together a little screenshot of one of the effects shots in my Big Freeze entry (‘Cold Case’).
Let the questions roll in!

That Tree is quite impressive. I’ve only had to deal with some things that were maybe, at most, 25% the size of that. Very cool.
