Use only a crop of UV texture map (image sequence)

Hi,

I am new here and I have a question that I can’t seem to figure out. Is there a way to basically only use a crop of a texture map in maya 2014?

Essentially what I am trying to do is have two poly planes. One plane [plane1], in the background has a texture map that is basically just a png sequence, very simple.

In front of plane1, is another plane to which I have mapped the same texture but from which I have deleted many faces so that the plane in front is about 1/10th the size of plane1.

Now I would like to somehow be able to keyframe animate the smaller plane moving in front of plane1 but to have the UV map for that plane be anchored to something global – so that when I move the smaller plane, the texture map is fixed - meaning that as the plane moves around it only shows a cropped area of the larger texture.

I hope I am explaining this clearly enough.

Any advice would be appreciated!

you could use transfert attribute in mesh menu and use the transfert uv fonction by world proximity. It should do the trick I guess.
