Urda-CGIAnime

#1

Hey Folks,

Just discovered, that the fantastic Anime “Urda” from ROMANoV HIGA is out on DVD now. As far as I know, it must be about the first longer CGI-movie ( 30min )
done entirely by one person!
And he started out with AM 2002. Does anybody know, if he did this project with AM to the end? Its still difficult to get more information because of the languagebarrier.

Anyway here are the links:

look at the side bar on the left. the 1~11 are the wip journel and from that it says he uses Animation master for the characters, Lightwave for background and after effects to mix it together. It is a mix of software. Pretty well done. I’ve checked out this site over the years has he put together more and more of the shorts.

(If these links are supposed to do some translation somehow, its not working on my computer…)

That AM/Lightwave cooperation-thing seems to be interesting.
Is there a tutorial in English somewhere around how this would be done? Is the cooperation with lightwave even still necessary nowaddays , since AM has improved over the last two years?
Where can I get this Magicalplay Ova?
I think the most important fact about this is really, that this could be done by one person, instead of twenty up to 80 people for a regular production like this…

Let me follow up on my response to you in the official forum…

Of course it’s possible to use A:M for mechanical and architectural modeling, but it’s time-consuming and requires careful advance planning and a lot of experience. This is why people in a production environment, like ROMANoV and the Soulcage Dept., prefer to render backgrounds in Lightwave. Someone who had a huge amount of practice with mechanical modeling might be able to create an entire production in A:M, but there haven’t been any outstanding examples so far.

Part of the problem might be the lack of libraries containing resources that mechanical and architectural modelers can use: doors, windows, levers, hydraulic cylinders, switches, nuts and bolts, lights, furniture, etc. This is part of the need for libraries that Martin Hash was talking about on IRC. However, the current effort to gather more pre-made content for the 2005 CD still focuses on character animation.

You might be surprised about the new CD. Roger Reynolds contributed a lot. While individual pieces may not be in the library, his buildings and props could supply plenty of mechanical parts and inspiration. If anyone has a bunch of stock mechanical stuff, I would be happy to try and get it included on the next CD.
