#177

Congrats! Amazing work and the trailer looks very promising!

#178

Amazing work! I love the “environment modeling/texturing” workflow
I’v got one question about compositting. What is the UV Channel render pass used for? I know how to output it from 3d application, but I have no idea what can I do with it in post. Thanks for any tips and suggestions. And congrtulations for winning this Challenge for the whole team!

#179

Again thanks a lot everybody!!! It’s an amazing and motivating feedback from you all!

@ Kris_Rusinek: very good question  In the xsi’s fxtree there is this spectacular and powerful node (but the very same kind of node is present in shake too…it’s the ColorX node) called “component parser” that gives you the chance to write expressions to warp an image using the color gradients of another (it can do tons of other amazing things actually we use it also to convert bumps drawn in the fxtree into normal maps on the fly).
As you can imagine the benefit of using such a pass is that you can even skip the color pass (containing the texture) and texture your model in compositing…or you can introduce new textures on the fly and see what happens.
We used the uv pass on the aliens to introduce some fractal and add complexity to the skin shading in just minutes…
BTW revision’s ReMap does the same thing…but to write a simple expression it’s a lil less expensive
