Hi There,

This is the group of Ishan,Kok ping and Yiming.This is our first ever CG Challenge and we’re really excited about this (Esp XSI :smiley: :D)
After reading few excerpts from David Brin’s novels we have got a brief idea about the story.Still not sure though…but we’are working upon that.

We are thinking about making a 1 minute short film.Genre is gonna be dark humour. And the setting would most certainly be from the first three novels from david brin.

The story roughly goes like this:

Set in far future the film starts with a table conversation between a son and his mother. The mother is from some ancient galactic race while the son is from a human father.
The son is asking her mother that she should always be ready to re-consider right and wrong. Further he tells he has killed father and now he has come to kill her to get the whole empire she owns.
It’s then when we realize how strange and dangerous it is to have an alien mother!

It’s still rough though… :expressionless:
We are thinking about shooting it in live action…so that we can match move the cameras in 3d.It might give it a better ‘handheld’ feel. Planning to shoot that tommorow.That would be our storyboard+animatics :slight_smile:

We are gonna use ‘the camera information’ from this.Also the performances wil help us in animation.
The story cud be a lil different…

NOTE:
1)After 50:21 mother and son have swapped their roles(since we wanted gud performance of mother at the end…but my friend(who was playing the mother) cudnt pull it better.So at the end it’s like - Mother has killed the son who came to kill her after killing the father.
2)Just to see how it looks with some music I added some frm reqieum…My composer has already started working for the final score.
3)The dialogues are not dubbed yet.you might not hear them properly…so we hav got subtitles.
3)We dint have any actors to work with…so we ourselves played the parts(and it was Fun :D).

The Idea is to get a complete handheld feel to this 3d film. Hopefully we’ll be able to achieve this by getting camera movements frm this film :slight_smile:

And ya…
we dint have anystoryboards while shooting this…just a piece of paper with some dialogues.The reason was to take these shots with different angles and movements…and finally in editing putting the best one in the final Cut.
Our friends have given few more gud ideas…May be incorporate them later…we might be shooting again…just to get some help for the animation…

Our teammate Mahaviro just passed his character design for the ‘son’ in our film.(Pose:fantasystockphoto)The son is supposed to be human and slightly a warrior kinda person…So for us a gud design to start with.He’s still working on it though.

This is my design for the mother.My first concern was to give her a look of vamp.Her dialogues with the smoke will surely be more effective then.And then a villaneous alien touch.Its been influenced by anime and photography by francesco D’isa.
But this is only the human pass for her.Now I have to go for the-‘alien pass’! …: )

The bulbs and cogs/wheels are all movin with lights behind them…guess it will help the eerie mood we intend to get…
Still havnt touchd any DOF or mental ray…just testing and testing… :slight_smile:
