Uplift Universe - Image Entry: Wayne Silasi
This is an early character concept that I am going to go with. I am currently working on the alien concept and will upload that next followed by the scene concept. The human is already blocked out and being detailed in Zbrush. Those pics will also be coming soon. I have an idea for the concept, but it isn’t nailed down yet. I’ll work with it and get it up here as well. Any comments are gladly welcomed. Thanks!
Here is a really early version of the base mesh of the human. Just trying to work out the topology and edgeflow here.
Trying to make the character look a little stylized with a really pronounced jaw line. Edgeflow feels good. Ears are hard, haha. All base meshes are done in Maya. I’ll upload the UV Map next.

I’ve finally decided on a concept. (sorry for the inconsistency in posting, it’s just the way I work, lol) Anyway, Agito, the creature, is Morton’s guide in traveling the countryside of the planet Eiorea. Agito is silent but acknowledges Morton’s requests in discovering this unusual planet. Agito also doubles as transportation for Morton and leaps from the high tree tops of the Dux Ducsons that grow to extreme heights. Morton rides up upon Agito shoulders and it is here among the canopy the duo takes a rest. I’m sure the concept will fluctuate as i near the end, but at least its a start.
chandro, yeah I used some photos of the Tarsier for reference. I thought they looked pretty alien-like and I thought I might as well go with it. I really wanted to do a creature, because it seems like a lot of entries are using humanoid aliens. I figure if there are aliens, they wouldn’t be built like us…I’ll probably push bit a bit further when I begin to model it.
I had to piece out the mesh and rendered seperate normal maps for each object because my system cannot handle that many polygons. I posed it in maya, but ran into problems with reimporting the geometry into zbrush, so descided not to render out a pose. Plus, I am going to pose it for the final piece, so, i’ll just do it there. Texturing is next on the guy, and i am about to start on my creature. I am thinking zpheres to block him out and then i can go from there.
Blocking out the creature now with an unorganized mesh. I’m going to have to go back and retop it after i get more blocking done, but this saves me a lot of time believe it or not. I want the creature’s demeanor to be gentle and wise. I see him as an aging creature showing this new world to a younger hereoistic Mort (human). This way it’ll show a transcending of generations and cultures…
Trying a color map here. Still have to do the ears and the back of the head. Since the end image is going to be an Image I dont think i’ll try to get too carried away with SSS in maya. Looks a little flat, I’ll have to pull out the finer details with a bump map during the final render.
Working a little more on the color Map. I used sokar’s skin shader on Zbrushcentral to get a more realistic feel. I still need the bump map though too. I think that’ll sell it.
