Uplift Universe - Image Entry: Tom Berry
I am most intrigued by the concept of planets becoming
uncharted after their usefulness has run its course.
These become homes for individuals of various species
who wish to hide. I see them falling into anonymity
over time, without trace, and their only conntection
with outside life being their genetic link to their
“mother” ship, their origin of birth, which itself
happens to be living matter, that link which cannot be
broken. Just playing around with concepts.
Still toying around with the abandoned planet concept and a matron with her boy-droid. This planet doesn’t have much to offer, assuredly abandoned. This background was created using both Mojo and Vue. Ship is C4D work. The droid is a compilation of modeling and scattered light use in Poser. Painting work needed otherwise after rendering in C4D.
I think that I’ll go with this background work which will be reworked using Vue to alter the sky. I tweaked around with my old version of Mojo to get this planet to where I like it. All components in this final scene will be 3D generated and compiled into the work. I’ve not done anything like this challenge before so I’m learning through my consternation, stumbling and head bonking.
Tom,
The background looks fantastic (I am a stumbler also - although I have been stumbling on a few of these challenges ;)). What is mojo?
I wish I knew how to use VUE!
I took the background into Vue along with the ‘Raye’ Ship
and a stock 3D character to render using an HDRI probe (IBL)
that was massaged using a C4D plugin. The probe was made
up of various lavenders. The results of the render were
worked slightly in PS and Painter to include starting to paint up the character-human.
Love the background, it contrasts well with the foreground figures.
Not sure if it was your intent or not, but her right knee does not look correct.
The Knee
I guess that I respond here…
I left the knee exaggerated because it will not be a close up in the final work?..
Actually, I’m glad you pointed that out because I’m not sure what I was going to do with that… More clothing work is needed… THANKS!
Then the results were again set up in Vue
with the ‘Living Ship’ (gray one - see prev. posts) added for
the next render. Then the ‘L’ ship was
rendered alone with only one added light - the
same IBL was used for this render as well.
Next the resulting render was layered into
the scene using PS. At this point, doing the
postwork with PS and Painter, I considered
adding one more ship to add interest. (So I
did - see above)
All modeling done in C4D.
During this process I pondered just how far I
could take this creation with limited
resources. I also pondered futurist notions
of level 3, 4 or 5 civilizations, humans and
other species developed beyond imagination. I
thought about the means to travel and needing
to throw off current mechanical age notions
about manufactured locomotion. If ships (some
sort) are used they will be living entities
themselves. The ability to create anything
needed from replicating tissue, what-so-ever,
will be an art form long established.
The story behind it all;
as mentioned earlier, the intrigue comes from
a level 3 or 4, much advanced, civilization
of humans that are considered mavericks.
There’s an idea that some would seek hiding
on/in lost or forgotten, perhaps forbidden,
planets. One gets the notion that life forms
are not limited by design life, programmed
life time-outs – expiration dates , and that
there are eons of time to be dealt with as
opposed to our current concept of life-span.
In this realm humans are ‘aliens’.
Please consider this the final work.
This image resolution is all my equipment can manage.
Thank you.
