Fantastic models and great texturing, this piece is looking fantastic. Looking forward to seeing it all come together, especially with some really atmospheric lighting this will be an awesome image. Keep going!

#28

All the characters are in place. Still have to work on the book and chair seat.

Started fiddling around with the lighting and camera angles.

#29

hey man,you are really good at modeling and texturing.great job!

This is really coming along. The textures look great! I know it’s hard to hide stuff you’ve been working on like the lovely background arches, but the alein characters are really popping off the background now. You maye have even lost too much of the background. As long as you keep your values subtle, you could do more back there… maybe not as extreme as the lit skies you had earlier, but what if outside the windows it was a purplish/blue starry sky? The best way to explain what I mean is to look at KoryH’s entry. Not that you should steal from him, but Kory did a great job of protraying space without making it solid black. soemthing like that could bring out your arches a bit and enev encho the colors in the female alein’s skirt. It could even help your human and chimp stand out a bit more. Right now they’re getting lost against the background. The aleins stand out clearly, but the human and especially the chimp are floating heads because their bodies are the same color as what’s behind them. Buy you said you’re still working on lighting, hopefully you’ll have a solution that helps. Good luck!

#31

fantastic models! But what I like the most is the character’s gestures and expression, especially the human, they look so alive. (it wasn 't like they’re arranged) Love it!

#32

VERY nice pic. Great composition and character expression. Good work.

#33

Wow, you’re done a lot of work modeling and texturing so many characters. I like the designs a lot, and the posing is very strong on all the characters. The only suggestion I would make is for lighting; the chimp and human character seem to blend in too much with the black background, maybe a fill light could define their silhouettes a bit better and help them stand out. But thats a minor point. It’s looking reat so far.

#34

Blas,

Looking incredible. My only crit would be the human’s right hand seems a little oddly posed…perhaps if the two smaller fingers curl back a little more?

#35

Wow! Thanks for all the great responses!

I took the sky out so that I could try and focus on the interior of the ship. I still have some more accent lighting to add, and am thinking of putting a bit more detail to the back wall. Hopefully, this will bring out the human and the chimp a bit more. I may have to lighten the color of their suits (another thing I am a little hesitant to do, so hopfully the extra details to the ship will do the trick!!).

Walrus - Thanks again for your suggestions. Once I took the “bright sky out” I could see how much better the scene flowed. I am working on a new background.

Blachart67 - Your right about the hand. I think that the pose is a bit too soft! Will take a look at correcting it. Thanks!

Hey there really nice work.

Looks like you ZB users leaving everybody else in the dust.
Guess the only other option is MudBox but no ZSpheres of course.
You know, in my newbness I'm only trying to get some models done and putting up a finished image.

XSI essentials academic too sweet a deal :buttrock:

I really like your texturing shading and posing skills they're totally impressive.
Also it doesn't look like the figures were just TransPosed haphazard they seem to be plausible and expressing something. Composition too. Interaction is really nice. Alien humanoids and monkey contrast with humans even on the colours? Really cool.

And the whole thing looks very austere with the lighting you chose.
Like a reading lesson, not.

Of course modeling is nice too. Looking pro.
Please keep it up

Here is the final composition. Thanks again for all the great suggestions.

Time to start the “final” render. Keeping my finger crossed.

#38

Wow! What an experience!! Never had to render anything as large as this challange on my "poor, lil, old computer. Wanted to do the render using Maxwell, but my system, just couldn’t hack it, so I ended up redoing all of the shaders and used a combination of Maya and Mental Ray (and a LOT of compositing in Photoshop). Overall it was a real “challenge” and I learned alot about some of the other aspects of 3d work that I hadn’t focused on before.
I’m happy with my “Final Render”. Hope you like it!!

Take care
Blas
