Some designs for the alien and human. The alien would be a war veteran, while the human is a young officer who obviously not a war material, eager to prove himself but was strucked down. The relationship is that of a mentor-student war buddies
Very interesting start.
The second alien design is way cool, although I can’t say I’m really fond of the eyebrow.
“Hang in there…”
The alien veteran had carried the wounded reckless young warrior to a safe pod. The war is still waging outside, but here he should be safe. Maybe.
Second scene concept. In this one, the boy had already died and the war is over. The alien veteran mourned over him, while in the background their other team mates approached them, crossing the now deserted battlefield
Hi everyone, this is my first ever CGChallenge (a hell of a nervousy here). I’ve seen previous challenges and there’s a lot to live up to. Everyone’s entry are gorgeous ^^
I want to make something rather simple, so there will be more focus on the relationship, and more time to finish it. The ones I uploaded here are still brainstorming
Maph, thanks for the reply ^^, I haven’t found the right alien face yet, though the big, hunched figure with long neck on the concept scene already fits my imagination.
Hey Pegahoul!
I really liked the first concept, with them in the pod. I think that angle is far more dramatic. But both of them are really nice, and so it is the alien concept.
Keep going man
Looks really good. I also like the overhead pod view. It gives an interesting view down onto the battlefield below. I’m not sure about the samurai sword. Seems anachronistic (although it’s a nice shape in the composition).
with your first concept i feel the head with out teh masking would be the best one to convey emotion, thats my favourite head design there…
fine composition studies with th eother concepts…top down looks nice…this is going to sound a lil of the beat but i feel the aliens arms, are too human :D. haha…It would be cool to see a little playaround with the musculature…
anyways graet work so far
Marley
I’m making this concept when I thought alien-human-war thingy is a bit cliched. Inspired by Tarzan, the relationship is that of “mother and adoptive child”. Much simpler to make and conveys more emotion (I hope).
A) is straightforward focus on relationship with no background
B) is the same as A but with city background. She’s sitting on the balcony
C) is the scene where she found the abandoned human baby
Hello everyone, thanks for the replies ^^.
Anubis3D, I agree, it’s my first choice since it’s dramatic.
nickjsky, I’m thinking of a futuristic katana, like a light saber? So it won’t look anachronistic.
LightSovereign, thanks! The unmasked alien is indeed more friendly. I made the masked one to make it look though but maybe it turned out scary. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll rememer that.
Cyberone, thank you, but I think I’ll pick the first one if I’m going to use this concept.
Okay so now I have two themes which I like both. I have asked my friends about it too. Half like the first concept coz it’s dramatic and cool, while the other half like the 2nd coz it’s less cliched (alien-human-war is already too many) and speaks more emotion.
I agree with their reasoning. That’s what I felt too. So now… what? (scratch head)
Want to make the 1st, coz it’s really cool, but will I make it with only a couple of hours everyday after work? So many things to draw for a war scene, and I’m not exactly science fiction material. With that in mind, I’m most definitely going to pick the “mother-child” thing.
Even that, Is it A, B or C? I like them all (idiot…
)
Suggestions? Opinions?
I think I’m gonna take a break while thinking over this (wait… that’s not a break -_-)
Instead of picking from existing ones, I made a new one. Great, now I’m officially confused.
This one is a play on mother alien - baby human thing, but with additional elements. I want the alien semi octopus coz you need a lot of hand taking care of the baby. I also want her to look rich. The maid hidden in the shadow is human, looking longingly at the baby… who is she? dun dun… (plot thickens) ^^
thats the one :)…its has the strongest narrative of the lot…awesome line work
Marley
Character design for the last concept, which I’ve decided to be the one to paint.
The alien queen costume was roughly inspired by Elizabeth I’s dress.
The maid… haven’t decided what her hair look like, but she’s once a pretty woman, but emotional and physical stress robbed the beauty out of her. (I don’t know how stressed she will look like though)
A separate artwork unsatisfyingly finished just before I read about this challenge. Talk about coincidence ^^! Now I can use this as a base look for the queen, although there will be some alterations, but it’ll give the idea of what I’m aiming for.
I’ll move on to WIP now
Thanks Marley ^^ yeah, I’m going to use that one I guess. Just feel I need to work up the composition more.
Arranging composition. Once it got to the computer, the one I sketch in pencil doesn’t really work… Still kinda empty here… and the maid’s position is forced…
Out of 3 compo sketch, I like this one the most. A bit centric, but the dynamic pose of the tentacles should cover it and the background, round window to show the alien city/world should make it beautiful.
The minus part is I have to get rid of the maid and her story with it.
Side view. I imagine this one in dusk. The maid was replaced by woman in hood in the corner, she just handed the baby to granny alien.
I love the scenery in this pic, the problem is the tentacles which won’t look good from the side, but those can be easily removed…
I’ll detail the sketches quickly and see where to go from here.
