Great work as always.Did you notice something? This year the cgchallenge timeline seems to be
compressed with a much tighter deadline. Also illustration gets less time. Some great illustrators take months or years to produce great art work.

Hi Neville,

That’s looking so darn good! love the black BG as you pointed it out wanting to be! Great idea, :lightbulb the face its great and so the light that hits his features! a much better emotinal aproach ! as It should for the personality you are going for in this art piece! Good to see your ideas at work as always my friend!

#67

Hey hey ol’buddy. Everything are the same: never miss a challenge and doing “3d in 2d” eh? Looking forward to see what you end up with this time

#68

Neville you always have such beautiful clean lines, someday I may have to pick your brain and have you show me a few pointers. I have such a loose style it is on the verge of chaos.

#69

added few muscle details, soon enough others will follow suit …

my fingers are aching :frowning:

still have a long way to go …

brrrhmmm ~ that is so true buddy … in fact … the time contraint is already a major challenge in itself, as for me … work pressure, tiredness, sometimes the thought of completing a little bit of the entry doesn’t even hit me :frowning: … all my energy gets drained at work :frowning: i really have to hand it to the other artists who have already come this far with their colour pass and some have even completed their entry on time :open_mouth: wow!
thanks for dropping by my friend! really glad to see you here

AxelAlonso ~
a big hello my dear friend!! :bounce: missed ya a lot! … as for the features n lighting … a very helpful reference image that i found a few weeks back lifted a big load off my shoulders … the only thing i had to do was replace the human features of the male character with alien features which further came from a ‘dolphin’ … ( the gills n fins ) everything else is already set, only downside is the reference image is not big enough to analyse details, i’ll have to come up with my own set of details when working on the high res version … plus i’ll have to think of a good colour palette or leave it as an old photograph … lots of ideas comin up … so in short … 40% of my work is cut out for me … the rest is still an important chunk for me to execute well … i hope :frowning:

MartinNielsen ~ hey bro! i just visited your thread … and boy was i dazzled! … plus teased too :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: … lol … best wishes to you bro! take care! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ivy00 ~ me always ready to help my dear friend! … in fact, the tools i use in order to get those lines n shades are :

eraser … playing with opacity settings for this tool, i can control how much i want a specific area to be erased, whether it’s 100% or 50% … this helps me shade better

pen tool … those sharp lines are created using the pen tool, followed by the eraser to get rid of certain areas…

smudge tool … finally, i use this tool to ‘disperse’ some areas inside out … a fine e.g is an ‘area shadow’ … how it stretches from sharp to blurry

hope it was of help :stuck_out_tongue: … let me know if you get stuck
thanks for dropping by! best wishes to you!

#71

Thank you Neville, I use eraser the same way, such a wonderful little tool. It is that darn pen tool in Photoshop that I get so frustrated with. One of these days I will master it.

#72

Hey Neville, great my friend!! Is incredible to see how your brushes develop in a totally magic way the forms and details on your painting  . Really cool control on the lighting and shadows. The expression for him is awesome!! Great work my friend!! All the best!!

#73

This is not 3D?. Damm. I’m completly blown away. My only crit for now is that the cheek looks as if bruised… Maybe thats the idea. Fanstastic work nonetheless!
