Glad to join the challenge and look forward to some great work from all of you! For now, I’m just playing around with the idea of doing a large vista, but don’t have any specific direction. To kick it off, here is my first color comp just to get the ideas started.

#3

Ha! You don’t waste any time, do you Nathaniel?

I hope I can squeeze in an entry this time, too.

#4

Here’s another quick one. Just throwing out some ideas as I get a feel for where I’d like to take things.

#5

Wow, nice man!

I wish you luck in the challenge!!

#6

it looks really good, but i dont see any of the inter-species relationship themes yet.

#7

Great sketches Nathaniel !
Nice to see you around !

#8

seems impressive at the moment but will we see aliens there?

#9

keep em concepts rollin in, already looks interesting

#10

Wow, love the colors in the first one. You sure work quickly

#11

Thanks for the comments everyone! Yes, I will of course be putting an alien/human encounter in one corner or another undoubtedly. I’m planning on entering this piece as a matte painting, so I’m still playing with the background scene and the architecture. More to come soon…with some proper alien interaction in there for you!

#12

Great work with colors. I kinda like the 2nd consept better. Maybe you can try to put some of the space ships ifrom the 1st consept in to the 2nd? Either way, it looks beautiful. Good luck.

#13

I’ve done another study that focuses more on the alien and human interaction, but still showing off the architecture that surrounds us. I’m liking this direction quite a bit at the moment, and thinking about painting up a ceremony of sorts. We’ll see how it goes!

#14

I think the 2nd is the best too…i don’ know why but this scene is especial

#15

Fascinating! :wip: I like your style. For me, the last one!

#16

Go for it. I think this one serve both goels. good luck.

#17

Just to complicate things, I think Comp 3 makes for the most engaging image of the three at the moment. There’s stronger and more interesting focus in that one, and it makes a stronger platform for the challenge theme, too.

Did I mention how frustrating it is to be competing against someone who has three appealing sketches done in the same time it took me to go into town and pick up a few of the books?

#18

Not sure if it was intentional or not, but your most recent sketch gave me the feeling of a “Christ” figure in the middle. Could be an interesting idea to explore, how human ideas of religion would translate to other species. Seems like he’s trying to put on a big spectacle for the spectators.

#19

looking good! Love your rough concepts goot luck mate

Nice mood. Like where you’re heading. Good luck
