My first idea and doodle.
The idea is of a interstellar bonding between an adobted human and a (perhaps rough) alien.
Right now I’m not sure of anything or where this idea will take me.
I’m considering a giant trading place, a desert like planet or a space station as the setting.
I think that my next step will be to make the alien design and then consider the rest.
just dotting down some different concepts for the alien.
I’m kinda thinking : the more out of place and different from our idea of a mother the alien is, the better.
Today I had the time to rough-up my colorscheme and make a more detailed mock-up of my idea.
There’s still a lot of things I have to think about and consider.
Right now I think it a farely good sketch for the mood and setting I’m aiming for.
Here I’ve covered a few of my steps.
First of all, I desided that THIS was going to be my image, so I went deeper into the alien pose and look.
I made outlined sketch, that I used as a reference to fill in colors and rough highlights.
I used a simple pen with about 50% opasity and just a lot of strokes for doing this part.
At some point my figure had enough details for med to loose the outline.
From here on I’m going to raise my resolution to a copuple of thousand.
Until now I’ve been working in a very low resolution, for speed and frankly because I like it for my sketching part.
Nice idea for a concept! I like the idea a lot. However, it’s a shame we can’t see the baby better. Instead of having it facing away from the camera, in a “burping position,” have you considered trying some different poses where we can see the child better? What if the alien were holding it in a more face-forward position, with the baby’s head cradled in the alien’s hand, etcetera. It could have a lot more impact seeing the child more clearly.
Best of luck!
I was actually thinking exactly the same thing last night. I also consideret letting it’s one hand curl up over the blanket to show more of it’s humanity
This just leads me to believe it’s the right decision. Thanks a lot.
…some strokes later I’m at a point where my plot is becoming more and more defined.
I added some details for the alien before adding background in the sides -I thought the image was getting too cluttered and pressing.
With the new width I had to try for some debris, some crashed spaceship with the child as the sole survivor.
How do you like this idea?
I really like this concept too. I kind of like the babys position but it makes sense to be able to see it clearly.
I was thinking that you might want to make the baby reach for aliens face or nose. babys like to grab things, maybe have it pull on one of the antennae to really make it an identifiable human baby.
This is Kevin Lenagh / Contacting Aliens. My one comment is that he really looks like a guy in a rubber suit right now. Why don’t you play with the proportions a bit, make him unhumanly thin, or the arms or legs flare out at unexpected places. I love the face and the main body textures, but he kind of feels like hes’ from Babylon 5. Let’s make him (her?) really alien!
I think its a bit too centered in my opinion and not as interesting in my opinion. Try moving the character to th left or right, not too much though. This will give the composition more dynamics. Or you can crop left or right whichever wields the best results. Later dude. I like the concept. ![]()
Hi all…
Thanks for all the comments. It is really usefull.
I’ll go through them more throughout when I get home from work.
This one I made just before goint to bed last night.
Today I just felt like brushing on the mountain background. -Making it more defined.
I’m still not 100% sure on my setting but my next step is to make a wreckage with bits and pieces scattered all over.
The biggest challenge is not to go bananas with the background and details. We want it to set the setting and not steal focus.
-Long time since update.
I’ve been a bit busy lately so this will just be a tiny update.
I’ve been working on the background. Trying to find a cool design for my wreck. So far I’m not satisfied but I do like the mood change my picture has taken.
