Uplift Universe - Image Entry: Donglu Yu
Just have read some suggested scenes from David Brin’s novel to get some inspiration. Here are some sketches to get myself warmed up.
I made a thumbnail first trying to capture the general idea I have for my scene and did a quick color test.

Hi Gerardo, thanks for the suggestion! I have put few characters in the foreground, but I am still not very sure how they should be interacting with each other.

Kept working with the composition, however I wasn’t really satisfied with the aspect ratio, so here is the change that I have made.
Wanted to put more action in the foreground too as there is much more room for this after I have change the aspect ratio of the composition. So here is the update.

great work already. I think it would be nice if the explosion in the back was a bit bigger (like it was shot from a mothership or something like that) and if we could get the impressions that the spaceships were coming from space and going faster…but its already nice and the colors are amazing. Keep up the good work Donglu.

I was doodling with the idea of having an alien mothership and few smaller ones coming out of it for attacking the human crew. My next step would probably be coming up with a more defined design for the elements in my image, i.e.: alien airships, dolphins, and the soldiers.

The composition and the scene is awesome, and those transparent aliens descending from the spaceship is really cool. Great choice of color too. Will be looking forward to this.
