This is coming along so well! The expression of the human bugs me a little. Maybe I’m just reading odd things into it, but it kinda reminds me of when people are posing for publicity photos and trying to look civil even though they hate each other guts? Something about his expression seems to say ‘I really don’t want to be here…’

Or is it just me? :shrug:

He he… well It’s not finished yet. The thing is that the face is done from scratch and I realized that it’s much more dificult to do (and that I need to work with portraits a lot more) than when you have a reference. I can’t say I’m entirely happy with the expression but okay for now I guess… :sad:

Hehehe, I understand that you are still WIP, but I thought I would just have my say because I know that I want to throttle people when they comment that something is ‘wrong’ with a painting of mine when I’m already done and over with it. :scream:

I’ve decided to try another variant. My wife photographed me. I traced the lines. Step 01.

I worked further from there. Looked at the photograph and painted. Keeping in mind that the light is comming from the back. Step 02

Technically its very well painted. The problem is that its terribly cliche and there is no real sense of story or character.

You seem to be moving along nicely Dimitrij. Can’t say I agree with the last commenter, I like the sentiment and it’s not a theme overly explored enough to be called cliche in my opinion. Keep painting! I’ll come and check on your progress when I can :slight_smile:

This is going well! You’ve clearly encompassed the theme into the image and your execution of the piece is excellent. Not sure about the guy’s legs / feet, though, it looks like his feet are going to be just touching the border and may spoil the composition.

As for the border - these images are not the final composition, the image is bigger. I croped it, so it would fit the 1280 by 1024 limit and would show the important parts.
