looks really cool. I don’t mean to bother but. I don’t think I posted my WIP pic on my post for the contest correctly. Think you could help me out.
Uplift Universe - Image Entry: Andy Jones
haha glad you worked it out Z3r0…it took me a while to figure it all out myself! Anyway you weren’t bothering me at all
I decided to add a bit more room at the top so the horizon wasn’t dead central. Changed the position of the planets too.
I’m not too sure about those ships so I have taken them away for the moment. Just carrying on with the mountainsand clouds and adding detail to the planets. Also I have softened the light a bit to see what it looks like.
This is looking very nice so far. A very JimBurns-esque image, very appropriate. I like it better without the ships, glad you decided to remove them. Compositionally, I think it could be worth seeing how it looks with the human 1/3 of the way from the left border and moving the alien/ape over so he’s 1/3 of the way from the right border. Another area to watch out for is the white on the human’s outfit, which is blending in with the snow in the backdrop. Also, the human’s pose feels a bit unnatural with the legs so spread apart. Anyhow, just some suggestions. Nonetheless, it’s still looking very nice. Good luck with the finishes!
I really like the mood and colour scheme of this piece.
Maybe when you place the ships back in the image, don’t have them from the back, but more of a perspective feel, giving them size and scale to the whole image. And maybe a few of them, giving an ominous feel.
Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
This is really developing well Andy, I like the distant planets. It’s got a bit of a ‘empire strikes back’ vibe about it which is really cool!
Thanks everyone for your input
Walrus… I was thinking about moving the ape so i agree with you there. Also yes the human does look a bit too spread legged…slippy ice haha. Will sort that and the outfit colour. Thank you for your help
Headtip…I still aint sure if I will have ships or not! If I do I will try another perspective as you say…more dramatic.
Bill… you know what? I never thought that once but now you say it it REEKS of the empire strikes back…that shows how imbedded in my head those effin films are lol anyway it’s not a bad film to have subconcious influence from
good feedback
Added the neo dolphin scout walker type thing into the mix. I will have to move things around or get rid of things to get a better balance I think.
I really should have planned the composition better!
Hey Andy, I like the way this is coming along. The dolphin creature is a cool addition. I think you should play around with the composition like you said. I was thinking that the alien guy would look good with his left arm coming up slightly holding a pair of binoculars. It would explain why he’s there and what his function is (or something like that). Keep it going!
Good idea Bill. I did play around with that idea but with a staff and then a sort of walkie talkie, but neither seemed to work. Bino’s are obvious and I can’t believe I didn’t think of that…after all the human is using them!
Cheers
I decided to bring the ape forward and up so he wasn’t so squat down at the bottom. And so he wasn’t blocking the whole view I have widened the image
as suggested by someone a few posts back (apologies for my crap memory whoever it was) I have given the ape binoculars. I am finding this quite difficult…purely the perspective of the damned things to fit the apes pose. I shall mess about with that.
Also I will probably add a little to the height of the canvas as I feel its a bit too square now (its growing by the day this pic!)
Thanks for looking
looking great . for sure. but still like it more your first concept of the graffiti alien artist. !
Thanks daniel! Yes I think the first is a better idea but as it was my first I decided to go with something a bit more cliched. Starting to regret it though as I aint too keen on it anymore haha.
