Uplift Universe - Image Entry: Aaron Wen
Just experimenting with colors/materials, trying to keep a simplistic style
Theme:
I was thinking about what would probably be the realistic view of interaction between humans and aliens. One idea that came to mind was that the aliens would be alienated (no pun intended :P) just by merit of being different, something which isn’t too alien to us. Another thing that I thought would be a realistic prediction of circumstances would be that of domination and captivity, which I’ll try to convey through this piece. I wish to banish the stereotype of aliens always being harmful and fearsome, by showing that such creatures would, realistically, be just as afraid of us as we are of them, and by showing the similiarities among the two entities(hence the child “alien” creature)
Things to do:
-Further improvement of materials
-Chains around the necks of the creatures?<-please advise
-Signs on the panel
-reflection of the human child’s face on the glass, showing awe/sadness
-Lighting
-Postpro/compositing
I intend to keep the modeling simplistic as I would not wish for it to detract focus from the style.
Great work! I like the scene of the child character reaching out to the whale-like alien. I think that’s a great alien-human relationship, and it conveys a wonderful emotional connection
. I’ll be watching your work. Again, excellent work!
I think your theme works well! try playing with your composition to force the drama a bit. keeping the modeling more on the stylistic side is something I’ve always had a hard time with it’ll be interesting to see how you do it. Also I think a strong play with warm and cold light will push your story. Try the chains out…but if it looks too prison-ish try something else.
Hopefully when I start making some real progress on my stuff I’ll be able to do the same
Just a color test, as you can see, I’m still working on the glass and the reflection, so I have omitted them from the image.
Added the glass, but not the reflection, as it hasn’t been satisfactorily composited
I might decide to not add it altogether if I can’t make it look nice
I’ve decided to post my final image, but for some reason everytime I try to submit it it says that one of the required fields is missing even though I’ve filled in everything. Does anyone know why this is so? Also could anyone instruct me as to how I upload the TIF image via FTP? Thx =)
Humans have imprisoned aliens for their recreational pleasure, this image is supposed to reflect the entrapment of the aliens, a different take on what is typically portrayed as the human-alien interaction.
